It's based on a Stephen King story, yet has nothing to do with it, yet has all the Stephen king clichés! What went on with the only King story King himself wanted no connection to? Nostalgia Critic takes a look at The Lawnmower Man.

The Lawnmower Man is a 1992 science fiction horror film directed by Brett Leonard, written by Leonard and Gimel Everett, and starring Jeff Fahey as Jobe Smith, an intellectually disabled gardener, and Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Lawrence "Larry" Angelo, a scientist who decides to experiment on him in an effort to give him greater intelligence.

Fun Fact about this movie: the visual effects for the film’s virtual reality scenes were done by the same studio that would also do Red Dead Redemption and GTA, before the studio was known as Rockstar Games (specifically the San Diego unit).

They also likely only had a couple hundred thousand if that for the FX. The movie was made on a 10 million dollar budget in 1992.....Unless they had a T2 or a jurassic Park level budget it was going to look like ass no matter what.

well the bad effect can be explained, everything is meant to happen in a game and not in reality for the vr phases, and about all the powers and visions, it is meant to be pulled out of the game since it is the games that gave the power, so in any moment it was never meant to be realistic.

The only Stephen King sequel I know (except for It, which was split in 2) is Dr. Sleep. Most sequels to SK movies are film-only stories, not based on any book. However, a month of Sequels to Films that Were Based on Stephen King's Books has potential. Most of them are indeed pretty out there.

I actually liked this movie as a early teen. I didn’t care that it was so loosely connected to the King story, none of the true horror of his writing could be visualized in any meaningful way on the silver screen. I loved the ideas and the fantasy. And the mood of being able to avenge a bullied existence.
