Great Idea. I first tried a motor from a electric shaver, was not powerful enough to drill a pc board. Then installed a 7.2v Makita drill motor. A bit big but it easily does the trick. The Makita had other issues. I often see cordless drills at thrift stores. Then side mounted a slide switch for power and back mounted a 12v 5a brick type computer supply i found at a yard sale for 50 cents. Then also on the back mounted 2x 2ohm 15w resistors to drop the voltage. Oh, also am trying dental burrs from ebay rather than drill bits. A bit hard to decipher the size of these things but there are charts online. From what I read the diamond dental burrs will last forever. Will see, my first experience using them. I tried talking my dentist out of some but no luck. His are probably of higher quality than the ones I bought. I left off the lever on top finding it easier to just push the block behind the motor.

The collate I got off ebay fit the shaft of the drill motor perfectly. If the motor shaft is too small for the collate you will catch fits trying to get it centered, believe me.....

Is there a right and wrong way to hook the wires up or is there a specific way the wires must be ran ? If so can you indicate what tires get hooked to what ? Would be super helpful to us non experienced electrical guys haha. Thanks in advance. What a awesome project.
@raykent32118 жыл бұрын
In case you don't get a more complete answer, here are my tips. Forget the LED and resistor, it's nice but not essential if you have good lighting. Now you just need to connect two wires from a DC motor to a suitable battery. If you do it the wrong way around it won't cause any damage, the motor will just spin in the opposite direction, and the drill bit won't cut. So just swap them.
@DeronShank8 жыл бұрын
What if you would happen to want to use a on/off switch to start and stop the drill. How would that configure into the positive and negative wires going from the motor to the battery? Thank you for answering my question as it looks like Im not getting a reply from the producer of this content or they are super busy and havent checked you tube recently lol.
@raykent32118 жыл бұрын
Deron Shank Connect a wire direct from one terminal of the battery to one terminal of the motor. Assuming you have a simple on/off switch that only has two terminals, then connect a wire from the other battery terminal to one of them. Then connect the other terminal of the switch to the other terminal of the motor. It makes no difference whether the switch is intercepting the positive side or the negative side. If your switch has 3 terminals it's probaby "changeover". Take one wire to the *centre* terminal and the other to either of the outside ones.
@DeronShank8 жыл бұрын
Ray Kent Thank You Sir!!!!! Its a bigger switch that has Off, Low, and High. It has three prongs. Two up top in each corner and one on the bottom left corner.
@raykent32118 жыл бұрын
Deron Shank Oh dear! Trouble is there's no fixed standard for switches... I guess you don't have a multimeter. I suggest you treat the one that's separate as what I called the centre one as a first try. You won't damage anything if you get it wrong. I might be able to clarify what I said earlier into a recipe. I'll write to represent a connecting wire. First: Bat+ motA , motB bat- The motor will spin. If it spins the wrong way (the drill bit needs to turn clockwise when looking down from above the machine) then do Bat+ motB , motA bat- Once you've sorted that then (using mot+ and mot-) we have Bat+ mot+ , mot- bat- ok? Now you can interrupt either wire with the switch, so I'll pick Bat+ switchA , switchB mot+ , mot- bat- You can find which pins work on the switch by trial and error without risk Good luck, I'd like to hear how you get on.

Hello Mate. Thanks for the video. Can you make a video where we can use a car vaccum cleaner at home?? It probably uses 12v output from the car battery. So if we can have a box/board connected to AC power but limit the output to 12v so we can use the car vaccum cleaner at home. I really can use that. 😃😃😃 thank you so much... Mad Genius!!

"5V DC motor" is a generic name, he's not really a 5V, but about 3V or so... those minimotors you can find in cheapie chinese motorised toys: trains, tanks, and so on... and the led is a 3.6 V one... voltage difference is too small, and anyway, the motor will lower his voltage a bit because is overvolted, so, the real voltage will be about 3.4-3.5V and lower, when the battery will become drain...
