I believe that it may be on a psychological level, relating to his relationship with his father. Mr. Krabs said himself that his own father gave him a dollar, which he was reluctant to spend, because it was given to him by his father, whom was missing from his life from his early years. Money may represent the relationship with his father, which he feels spending said money is comparable to pushing away the relationship he had with his own father.

I suppose Pearl is still a young whale, so she should be a lot bigger later. As for Sandy, water pressure compressing her frame because she is not naturally built for being that deep under water. Kind of how like astronauts are taller on the moon due to lower gravity. She is smaller due to the increased pressure from being that deep. Basically, she pressure compresses/ shrinks her frame. If I recall she is a lot bigger in the episodes they visit the surface (older episodes). Her helmet helps her breath obviously. The air is recirculated so she is breathing in carbon dioxide so she would be poisoning herself after prolonged time wearing that helmet. Unless her suit has a device that filters the air in the water. I suppose the pressure without her suit should kill her unless she is in her tree dome. Then again, realistically speaking, the closer you are to the center of the Earth, the weaker gravity is (that's based on being on the mantle of the Earth, not sure if it applies the same for technically being beneath it). However, by all accounts. Sandy's suit (assuming it is based off a space suit) shouldn't help her survive with the mass pressure of being that far underwater. Spacesuits protect from air pressure, not weight pressure. The suit could regulate the pressure exerted on her body, but we see some episodes when she just has her helmet. Other than obviously suspending disbelief for a cartoon, perhaps her helmet projects a barrier of some sort on her whole body, but then she should be able to interact with people or objects. Maybe she has some kind of anti-pressure pill for being underwater. Similar to what Fry used in Futurama. As for her helmet, I thought maybe it was Plexiglass like at the bank was used. However, researching I found that is really weak and the hardened glass is actually a laminate of hardened glass and polycarbonate. That glass is heavy, and I know Sandy is strong, but there is no real way to make your head stronger. I get that Sandy is a squirrel, but an average human skull can withstand 520 pounds of force before crushing. A squirrel's is probably less. This human bone is stronger than steel and concrete of the same mass and is almost impossible to crush unless using a heavy object. A glass dome/ half circle like her helmet would not withstand that much pressre naturally.

The most logical theory as to why Mr. Krabs obsessively hoards money is because the more money he has, the further away he would be away from his early life of poverty. It’s not so much that he likes collecting it as it could simply be a coping mechanism from an early age that he simply never outgrew. So whenever Mr.Krabs earns money, it would be paralleled with the feelings he had when he realized that he was no longer poor. So even if he had all the money in the world, he just wouldn’t spend it because that one marginally bring him one microscopic step back to being poor because he would have “less money” which could be seen as the same as having “no money” again. This would also explain why he never upgrades any of his belongings (like his old mattress, or how he resides candles for Pearl’s birthdays, etc.). Another example would be his view on charity when he famously said, “What have children ever done for me?” Sure donating to a charity would make someone feel good but, it won’t get him more money; just take him a few steps back financially cause he couldn’t gain anything from it.

I feel as though it has this poverty mindset. We see this with a lot of individuals who grew up sometime either during or just after the great depression. My father and a number of other relatives are such examples. They all grew up in houses, that in a way, are very similar to that of Mr. Crabs. Each of them managed to find themselves in a position where they had much more income yet still maintained their frugal habits and even feared the loss of this income and ending up in a similar situation much like when they were growing up.

The reason we never see Pearl's mom is because she doesn't have one. She was adapted by mr. Krabs which is why pearl is a whale instead of a crab like mr. Krabs and also his mom. Pearl isn't related to him because she's a whale! And she doesn't like spending time with mr. Krabs because he's not her real dad because she was adopted. The reason pearl was adopted because no one wanted to be with mr. Krabs because of his obsession for money. And he wanted a kid but he wasn't married so he couldn't get a kid from the mother naturally. So he turned to adopting pearl because she had no parents. And he doesn't like spending money on pearl because he had to pay in order to adopt her, so he doesn't like speading money on her.

I actually always thought he just found money to be something that makes him happy since he didn't have a lot of money when he was growing up. He has money now, and that makes him feel good about himself and the choices he made in his life to earn this money.

I think he felt powerless as a kid because of his poor origins. That penny gave him a feeling of power he never felt before because it gave him a reward for his hardships in life. Also, I believe that Mr. Krabs does have a future intent to use his money to create a better world for kids. Remember when he sold the Krusty Krab to those guys who wanted to make an affordable kids restaurant out of it?
