I didn't know this but I love it! This is one thing about Taylor that a lot of people don't know that is actually really genius...most of her "corniest" or misunderstood songs are actually written that way to reflect the feeling they were written about. Who does that?!? She's so talented!

Honestly, even in the wake of everything else she’s done, I still feel like, in a way, it is Taylor’s ultimate cultural reset. Reputation and LWYMMD were really points where Taylor started to redefine her image and step out of what BM wanted her to be. It was Taylor’s first step into being the artist she is now, even if she still had a journey to go before she reached it’s apex.

It was reassuring for us, her fans, and with it she literally saved herself from being “exiled” from the music industry by Kanye, Kim and the media. It was a middle finger to everyone who wanted her out. And getaway car and delicate will forever be fan favourites ❤

Basically when she says "he can be my jailor, Burton to this Taylor", she's saying she wants him to lock her down and compares the relationship to that of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. She wants to exclusively be his and vice versa because she believes he is the one for her. She later elaborates on this during the Lover era in the Miss Americana documentary and uses the "fish bowl" analogy in the Lover music video. She explains someone who is in love with her must accept that her life isn't completely normal and she can't control every aspect of her life. So she often uses "crime" metaphors like "robber", "heist", and "Jailor" as a way to explain her love life. Similar to that of a criminal, she understands there may be consequences and in spite of those consequences continues to fall in love similar to how a criminal commits crimes regardless of the outcome. The stakes are high for her when it comes to love just as that of a criminal committing a crime. Also, "Jailor" was a coded couple name she came up with for the fans. Joe + Taylor = Jailor. So basically what I am saying is she's an actual genius.

my fav part about reputation is how this edgy, harsh tone starts to disappear as u go down the album. it’s to show that taylor is playing this role, like she’s the villian. but it unravels to show her deep and sensitive emotions. UGH i love this album it’s so iconic

Yes! It’s even on the track names. Notice how track 1 starts with @HTHaze’s future daughter’s name (😂) and ends with track 7 as well. Literally from “…” to “…”. Then starting on Gorgeous IMO is the retelling the story in her actual genuine way, not in the tone of her playing the villain.

This is her trojan horse album- you go into it thinking it's a revenge album, but really the first few songs are a somewhat satirical idea of "vengeful taylor" and then the rest of the album turns out to be about love/her relationship. It's sort of her saying "while you thought I was hiding away plotting and scheming, I was actually falling in love in privacy"

I (As a Veteran swiftie) always say with reputation, you just had to be there. We were scared. We were lost. Hopeless. Believing our faves career was over, forever, gone, we lost the Great War. The stans were in the Twitter trenches during #taylorswiftisoverparty. And all of a sudden without a sign, she drops those Snake gifs on her empty Instagram. WHAT WAS GOING ON?? and she dropped LWYMMD. The most easter-egg-loaded MV ever. And then we get a whole bounce-back album??? I think Taylor could’ve given us her recorded farts with reverb at this point and we’d still have gone absolutely ballistic. And when the full Kanye call recording got dropped years later it all made sense, finally. So I always believe Rep just doesn’t hit as hard when you listen to it today as just another TS album with a bit of controversy. I truly believe the album was purely fan service in a way. To fully get it, you just had to be a stan back during that era and live through it all. It was like an epiphany to us after we thought we were damned. I KNOW this sounds dramatic but girl, do you know how hard it was being the teenage girl at the family dinner table constantly having to defend Taylor in conversation when everyone was gossiping and being plain misogynistic?? I never gave up on her and never believed the rumours. PS: PLEASEEE watch the tour documentary on Netflix. It really rounds up the album and the emotion in the fandom I was just talking about. It’s almost cult-ish.

Yeah. The first verse is baiscally her explaining to Tom that she used him to leave Calvin and the Second verse and Bridge is about how she left Tom for Joe. Tom was her Getaway car. I'm a fan of her work please don't misunderstand me, but after listening to it once, I went to check on some comments of it from both, professionals and fans, and I agree mainly with the idea that it missed cohesivenesss. It's not bad tho, the tour sold out pure stadiums so that's outstanding, and from a fan's point of view, the album didn't need a Grammy. Without Reputation, we wouldn't have gotten Lover.

Gorgeous is about Joe Alwyn whom she met at the Met Gala April 29 - May 6 2016 . Calvin and her were already on the way out: "I wanted to leave him, I needed a reason". She broke up with Harris soon after. She was filmed dancing with Tom Hiddleston at the Met Gala and conveniently used him as the vehicle out of her relationship with Harris. He was her "Getaway Car". I think she dated Hiddleston for three months as a safe buffer, to put distance between her and Harris because her sights were always set on Joe Alwyn from the start. I think she just wanted some distance between herself and Calvin Harris first because he was vindictive and I think she feared he might try to sabotage her relationship. She and Joe started dating a few months later in October. The line "I've got a boyfriend, he's older than us" is true about Harris or Hiddleston, but the next line makes me think it's Harris she's talking about "he's in the club doing, I don't know what". The song High Infidelity captures the same timeline. She didn't show up to a party on April 29 2016 celebrating Calvin Harris' release of the song "This is what you came for" that they'd worked on together. She didn't want to leave the dinner party where she had just been introduced to Joe Alwyn. "Do you really want to know where I was April 29th? Do I really have to chart the constellations in his eyes?" She didn't tell Harris about Joe, but, since she'd been filmed dancing with Hiddleston he was a convenient excuse "I bent the truth too far tonight. I was dancing around it".

I feel like the entire Reputation album was meant to be a "fuck you" to her old label. She took creative risks and went completely out there from her usual style. It was gonna go one of two ways: Be such a masterpiece that she makes the most money she ever made off of it, OR be more of a flop and fuck the label a little before she went to her new one. I think it's a very love it or hate it album. I love it, but I know many who feel its her worst too.

Something I think a lot of people miss is that this album is beautifully sequenced. The ellipsis play a vital role. She leads you into the story with them and then when all hope is lost she turns the album around on you after So It Goes... Because her life was going to hell, and then she takes it into her own hands, leaves Calvin, has a fling with Tom and finally finds peace when she meets Joe. The album is sequenced to take you on the journey from her fall from grace to her settled acceptance and peaceful love story.

OK, I need to defend Call it what you want bc you had it right the first time. This is maybe the best song on the album and sums up the message. The album starts as a revenge story that melts away into a love story. The entire album can be summed up in it's best line: 'Starry eyes sparking up my darkest night'. Not much needs to be said outside of that. It's just really wholesome mature growth that culminates into a really nice love song about not letting the opinions of anyone else affect your life and relationship

Reputation might have my favorite story arc out of all of Taylor’s album. Taylor once said that the sound of the album matches the timeline of how she felt from 2015 to 2017. She was angry and vengeful in the beginning, and then she met Joe, finally someone who loves and sees her for who she truly is after many failed relationships, friendships, and rebounds. At the end of the album, she’s finally in a peaceful and quiet place where she stopped caring about what the world thinks of her. Even if you take out all the drama, this album is a beautiful love story about finding true love in your darkest time through of all the noises and chaos. reputation might not be my favorite or even the best Taylor album, but it will always have a special place among the fandom

You said it perfectly, and this is exactly why I think reputation is her best album. So many people think its just her trying to be edgy but it's a love album under the disguise of being 'edgy'. She was angry, then she met someone who understood her and stayed despite the whole world being against her, and then she finally felt at peace

She's better than she ever was. New year's day is also in my opinion one of her best albums closers!

About the 4th of July lyric, there’s a vídeo of Ed explaining that reencontered his now wife on a 4th of July party on Taylor’s house. He had this long time friend that was in the US and asked Taylor if he could ask her to come to her party (hence the verse “knew her when I was younger, reconnected when we were a little bit older”) I just think it’s so cute that Taylor was basically his wingman hahaha

I love this album on its entirety really. It's Taylor at her sassiest and the instrumentals sound fresh even to this date (cant say the same about 1989 for example), I feel like she took a risk and went the farest from her 'original sound' and made it work somehow. Mad respect to her for that

Troy, the thing with LWYMMD is that Taylor blacked out all her socials, deleted all her posts, and posted a clip of what we all thought was a dragon or snake. Then when she dropped the lead single, everyone focussed on the 'the old taylor can't come to the phone right now. why? oh cause she's dead'. She did no promo during the era and everyone was concerned that she would never talk again, never sing her old songs live, etc etc. It was a tough time in the fandom!! But really she was just keeping her private life private because she began seeing her now-partner Joe (as the album describes)

One thing I will say and apologies for the crass language but Reputation is 1000% Taylor's horniest album. This is her owning her womanhood and her sensuality and I love it.
