Farewell ceremony for Halimah Yacob as Singapore President at Istana

A farewell ceremony was held at the Istana for Mdm Halimah Yacob as Singapore's President on Thursday (Sep 14). She is succeeded by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who was sworn in as Singapore's ninth President.

People should know that to register an IC, (a person’s race can be registered differently if he or she is of mixed parentage. For example, a child of Chinese and European descent can be registered as Chinese, European or Eurasian.) As such, it is not an issue, she is known as Malay as her mother is Malay.

@@zack.111 maybe now but some yrs back, they only follow the fathers nationality. I am eurasian my husband is a foreign. My daughter though mixed is registered as her fathers nationality. I wrote to the authorities to change it but was given a firm NO. Seems like rules are rules then. Cannot bend.
