I remember hiding extra fried chicken in my pocket when comes lunch break. It was the time that we, the rural kids didn't have to worry about our belly when in school. And for us back then, we were really looking forward to attend school to have free delicious meals, 5 days a week. I have 5 siblings and 4 of us attend the same school, I'm sure the programme benefitted my poor family a lot. I'm not sure if we still have those now in Malaysia.

This is ongoing for over 2 decades now ,it has significantly reduced malnutrition among the poor children especially in villages. The core problem can be corruption by school authorities, but this has been largely solved by creating organisations/NGOs that specifically check the nutritional quality of the meals.

There is no such thing as a free meal. It costs money to grow and harvest the food, it costs money to transport it and it costs money to cook and distribute it. All it means is that SOME people will get free meals at the expense of other people who have to pay for it.
