A second chance for Sonic Colors Ultimate

So we actually did manage to solve SOME of the stutters in SCU due to blind squirrel not generating bits of shader cache. But the current cause of stutter right now is reflection probes. They’re basically volumes that capture an area so that it can reflect what’s within there. The issue is that Godot…well the version that SCU utilizes, compiles those at runtime. So whenever a new part of the level loads, the reflection probe has to capture it. Which hurts performance. We’re looking into a way to possibly cache these and solve this issue. As for the asteroid coaster vis area bug…I’ve never seen that happen ever. I’ll have to take a look at it sometime soon. The team and I greatly appreciate the feedback. 💜

Isn't there a way to force shaders to compile? You could maybe add all the shaders into a simplified scene (or several if there are a lot of shaders), let them compile with a simple loading screen texture covering the player's 2D view, and then switch back to the main scene once all the shaders are compiled.

This helped me "get" the outcry over the original release of Colours Ultimate. I particularly liked the side-by-side comparisons of gameplay and the back-to-back of the old and new cutscenes. This fan project shows what the official product *should* have been (and I'm with you on blaming management and leadership for that, rather than the developers themselves).

in my brain colors ultimate came out “late last year” so when you mentioned that it came out in 2021, a year BEFORE frontiers, the passage of time caught up with me all at once and hit me like a sledgehammer

This is the definitive way to play Sonic Colors. I was in awe as I was revisiting the game. It actually makes me want to 100% the game because I want to see every bit of the game. Oh yeah, the crashing is from the mod itself. I've had it happen in Tropical Resort 2.

If you're talking about light fields, that's something which was in the original game, but removed for Sonic Colors Ultimate. Half of the point of the Hedgehog Engine is having really good light fields.

By "lighting fields" I think what that means is that they place some sort of object in different parts of levels that dictates how the lighting should effect Sonic at the time, like how bright or dark he should be or what colours are around him.

I've said this before, I joined the franchise in late-2021 and everything Sonic I touched was a fiest, I had 0 experience with the franchise. Sonic Colors Ultimate was my first dive into Colors. Played in 2022 on the XBOX ONE. I 100%ed it and got all achievements. It was fine, pretty much every issue I had with it were related to the Colors experience, not the Ultimate remaster. Never crashed, no bugs on my playthrough, only minor visual glitches. I've seen the objective flaws online, the lack of details and all. But it's overall just fine, a 7/10. I think Sonic fans only know the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9 and 10 cause you won't find anyone giving any game a 5, a 6 or a 7 out of 10. "1/10 🗑️" and "10/10 🔥" is the average Sonic fan'e critical range.

It isn't any different than any other version tbh, the modloader automatically detected the game instillation folder on mine. After that you select the downloaded mod zip file (or the folder where you extracted it) then save and play!

Some of the gameplay breaks where you'll fly off a path is caused by high framerates, if you're playing above 60fps they're more prone to happen. I play at 240 and because of that framerate planet wisp act 3 is unplayable as the ramp sends me to my death at framerates higher than 120 so I have to use the debug mode mod to cap my framerate down to 60 just to play that level. I'm pretty late to watching this video so I'm pretty sure Blu has already taken notice of your feed back lol.

I already had the original console version of colors so I never picked this up. That and the mixed feedback it was getting didn't help. Definitely planning on picking up Sonic and Shadow Generations though since I enjoyed the original and it has a substantial amount of extra content making worth checking out.

Is there any chance that this mod will address the glitch where wall-running setpieces don't trigger properly and Sonic just flies off into the abyss? If I can make a suggestion my brother, referring to the folks that worked on this as "talented" in the context of the work they did is a little under-appreciative of their work. Only mentioning it because you say the word "talented" so often. It's a greater testament to an artist's efforts to call them *skilled* at what they do, as of course this explicitly means they practiced, trained, and grinded for the abilities they're displaying. I work with a lot of artists and I just find this is a better way to treat them and appreciate their work. Food for thought.
