I wrote this comment already under @Sam Procrastinates latest video, but I really need to get this out of my system once again: The moment Shadow said "That life was taken from me years ago" I realised something... The scar of loosing his best friend is relatively fresh. As far as we know, Shadow had been sealed away by GUN soon after the incident on the ARK. Right after Maria died... It might had been 50 years to the world, but in Shadow's eyes, all this time came down to moments. Which only makes it harder for him to move on. I know the timeline of the games isn't really explained, we don't know how long are the periods of time beetween the events of each game, but... How much time could realisticly have passed? A few months? A year? It doesn't even feel like it's been 2 years from SA2 to Sonic Generations in the game universe... One thing is sure though... Shadow's wound definitely still hurts, and it is definitely still healing...

I find it interesting that Rouge doesn’t believe she would be able to talk Shadow down. There’s been a handful of times Rouge has tried to convince Shadow to see sense: 1. In SA2, Rouge tried convincing shadow his memories might be fake, and although Shadow admitted there was a chance she might be right he was still determined to see his plan through 2. In Sonic Heroes, Rouge was able to convince shadow and Omega to form an alliance to track down Dr. Eggman even though the two were hell-bent on killing each other just a minute prior. 3. In Sonic Rivals 2, Rouge convinced Shadow to explain why he was trying to collect the chaos emeralds even though just a few seconds prior he made it clear he wouldn’t be explaining his motives (Sonic Rivals isn’t exactly known for great writing, now is it?) 4. In Sonic IDW, Shadow was hell-bent on killing Mr Tinker and Rouge chose not to directly get in his way. Implying that she didn’t believe he’d listen. 5. When Shadow was infected by the Metal Virus, Rouge tried telling shadow he should run for his own good, but he refused. (Not the best depiction of him but it should be mentioned.) 6. Once more in IDW, I never noticed how often these two are at odds in this book, Rouge convinces Shadow not to go after Dr. Starline and instead help Sonic save some civilians. So with all this in mind, the results vary from case to case. It seems sometimes Rouge can talk sense into Shadow and sometimes she can’t. Regardless the two are typically on the same page and trust each other full heartedly.

Commander Abe is now the Commissioner Gordon to Shadow's Batman, which I am all for. It's also really surreal seeing Shadow finally having strong emotions outside of anger or being a jerk. These shorts highlight that while Shadow is by default a stoic and logical thinking being, as Maria put it, "he has a big heart, it's just difficult for him to express it." As an introvert, that speaks to me at a personal level. The way Dark Beginnings re-contextualizes and re-establishes Shadow's lore is done brilliantly. Hopefully, these shorts will get more recognition in the gaming/animation community.

I abhor Shadow's spin-off game and I don't consider it to be canon, but I have to admit that I love the way Abraham Tower is depicted in Dark Beginnings Episode 3. Maria really brings out the very best in everyone, even a jerk like Abraham. Maria's positive legacy is still continuing with Abraham gaining more respect toward Shadow as Maria was a friend to both Shadow and Abraham. Also, I don't care what anyone says, I love the Archie Sonic comics (yes, even the Penders-Era Archie Sonic comics). I grew up with the Archie Sonic comics. To see Archie Sonic lore (like the GUN commander having the name Abraham Tower, for example) being referenced in Dark Beginnings Episode 3 makes me very happy. I wish the Paramount Sonic movies would also reference the Archie Sonic comics, but they'd never do something that cool.

Amy inadvertently triggered a dormant memory of Maria to talk Shadow down. It seems that people need to invoke "Maria-ness" to persuade him. I'd argue that not even Amy can do that consistently. Though I will say that Amy and Cream would have the best chances.

I'd say Amy and Cream having the best chances of bringing it out of Shadow may very well be the case. In the Shadow the Hedgehog game, if you been going on a Pure Dark path, when reaching Cryptic Castle (which can only be reached on this path may I add) you can choose to help Amy find Cream and Cheese. By completing the mission and going Hero rest of the way it will actually put him right back on the path towards a Pure Hero ending, heavily implying that even after doing many misdeeds he still can be fully redeemed by the end thanks to them.

Very true. Even Sonic has invoked similar sentiments that Maria had echoed. In episode 2's Finding the Way, Maria's reassuring speech to Shadow that he ultimately has a heart that separated him from the Black Arms resembled a similar speech by Sonic regarding both Shadow and Emerl in Sonic Battle regarding their past as "weapons." and that they have hearts especially after Shadow changed his mind to save the planet unfortunately there because of how Emerl mirrors Shadow and due to the threat Emerl presents in knowing how dangerous the robot is, Emerl's mere existence makes Shadow think about having almost destroyed the planet in SA2 against Maria's wishes and that's why he wanted to not only destroy Emerl but even heavily implied he was suicidal after the fallout of Shadow the Hedgehog, because of how he argues to Sonic that no both him and Emerl are weapons and if the people of the world ever want to know peace that they must destroy them which Sonic was shocked by him having such disregard for his own life. This is why when Shadow makes his iconic line in 06 that he'll fight like he always has even if the world does betray him again despite Mephiles telling him of his fate, Shadow's not accepting it lying down like how he would have in Battle to humanity's comfort, but he's also not taking the route of returning to a path of vengeance again.

Also, in my headcanon, Amy is the reincarnation of Maria and the reason why Shadow acts as a father figure to Cream is because in my headcanon, Cream's father is actually Shadow. Amy has talked Shadow down once, but Rouge herself has actually talked Shadow down several times, both in the IDW comics and in the Archie. Even Sonic has been able to reason with him at times. While I agree that Shadow is stubborn, it was clearly just a plot convenience line imo.

As someone who grew up with Sonic and didn’t know Shadow’s lore until later, I always thought he was cool. And thought his lore was heartbreaking. But this? This truly recontextualized and reintroduced so many things for the character. And I’m really happy about that. I’m happy that newer fans actually learn about this character. Hell- I remember on my viewing on the second sonic movie, younger kids were explaining the Sonic lore to their parents, and losing their minds when Shadow showed up in that post credit. I lost my ever loving mind when that happened. I kid you not. My parents were old enough to see Sonic back when he was still classic Sonic. So- the fact that I get to explain the war to them and show them the stuff now makes it awesome. And it’s even cooler that Shadow finally gets to be a badass again and have so many things explored again

Im so glad that Sega and Sonic Team are starting to be hands off ish with Shadows character he was never a complete edgehog he was damaged, he was traumatised by his past and it should always be reflected on what he's truly fighting for. The memory of maria. I know its a kids game but seeing Sonic slowly come back to the ways i remember it being when i was a child is validating i dont need all seriousness but i fell in love with the characters for a reason and i love that they got Ian Flynn to basically herald this new era of Sonic along with a rocky but clear vision for the future, I just hope this remains as such for a long time.

The 2000s era of Sonic had some pretty bad games. Let's not kid ourselves. However, that's a criticism of the gameplay and production schedule. But what I genuinely love about that era is that it was a time where SEGA was bold with Sonic. They weren't afraid to take the character in weird and dark places, and there was honestly a sense of pride in the character that allowed them to go in these brave directions with him. The 2010s Sonic felt more like SEGA was embarrassed by Sonic, and didn't want to take him too seriously. I'm so happy that it seems like 2020s Sonic will be going back to the more serious shounen-esque storytelling we had back then.

Even if that were the case, assuming this moon is exactly like our real life moon, this moon "changing sides" wouldn't be possible due to tidal locking, which cause the same side of the moon always faces Earth.

However, working backwards from their moon working the same way, blowing up a significant portion of it would change its physics, would it not? Certainly due to the moon losing roughly half its mass the tides would be affected and Earth's rotation would speed up a bit due to the moon's gravitational pull being weakened by its loss of mass. There's also a chance the moon would now be a bit closer to Earth's and possibly spin a bit faster due to its lessened size so tidal lock could still occur maybe?

That one shot of Shadow in the rocket with his eyes getting wider and wider is something I’ve wanted Sega to do with Shadow for years, show his vulnerability! I understand that people want Shadow to move on from the Maria stuff but trauma doesn’t just let you get over it. It creeps back and taunts you for no reason. Sonic has great memories but still chooses to move forward without them but Shadow WANTS to move forward but no matter what he does (or what the fans want) he will always be defined by that fateful day. That with him forever.

Dark Beginnings is a Masterpiece of Sonic Animeated Short, and each either gets better are are Equally Great, as for Part 3, I have to say this was a Good Way to End this Prologue as it was clear that Sonic X Shadow it’ll start on the Ark, as for the Finale love the Animation and Action Scenes, the Characters are Great, hints for the Time Eater, Abraham Tower has moved on from his Past with Shadow that I’m wondering if he’s going to be in the Game, and Shadow shows Mercy, his Mission to Maria, and the Past Tragedy he’s Struggling, can’t wait for the Game.

Personally, i think Rouge is a better pick for Shadow romantically speaking, Amy hasnt really interacted with him that much aside from that time in SA2, and if Shadow does indeed learn to move on from Maria once and for all, then Amy s appeal will diminish a lot. Rouge would make more sense in my mind, she really cares for him, to the point of helping him raid a G.U.N base, no other character is as close to him in the present day.

While I feel like Shadow's chemistry with Rouge is stronger than with Amy's due to their time spent together on screen or Knuckles' chemistry with Rouge in an on and off fashion, I feel like it could have been done better in Adventure 2 with Rouge once again convinced that Shadow that his memories were altered after doing her deed which is why she flies after him as Shadow had the similar moment of how the memories flashes from Maria and Rouge back to back, enabling him to run to the alter, which should prove that Amy is a last-minute decision, her only contribution is the multi-player, that's about it.

Dark beginnings has an animatic version of it as well, sort of like the pre-visualization version of the final product It’s got just enough dialogue to be different, with scenarios that do play differently, despite having the same ending I encourage your reaction to it!

Honestly, the first thing I'm going to do when I get Sonic X Shadow Generations on my PS4 is just rewatch Dark Beginnings (probably a few times), as well as all the deleted scenes that are supposed to also be included I'm just glad that they are finally starting to include these animations in the games (would be better if they are included in all versions of the game though, even if I was always going to get the game on PS4)

Unrelated, but bro I feel you on the job search. I spent an entire year looking for one to get out of a toxic fast food work environment. I just landed a new job a couple of months ago. I can't really donate on Patreon, but I'm commenting so that hopefully the algorithm picks this video up. Related, I loved Dark Beginnings and I'm honestly so glad that SEGA is actually taking Shadow's story/trauma seriously for once. Okay so I think Rouge’s squeaking sounds is coming from her boots. It’s the material she wears and I’ve worn those types of materials that tend to squeak when they come into contact with any surface…. It’s some type of latex which seems that her boots and gloves are made of for that “sexy” vibe.

Honestly I always thought that Amy would be something of an annoying sister to Shadow, even then I don’t think she would be able to consistently talk him down. I do think Shadow finding family and friends through Team dark and even Sonic and the others is great, in a way where Shadow would never admit it that he sees them that way. Good video

Between Edgy the Hedgie getting what is basically his own game that is said to be about as long as the main Sonic Generations game (seriously, Sonic x Shadow Generations feels less like a Sonic Generations remaster with a Shadow mini-game thrown in and more like Shadow the Hedgehog 2 with a Sonic Generations remaster tacked on) and this incredible anime that FINALLY portrays him the right way after almost a decade of being the stock fRiEndS aRe fOr wEaKLiNgs asshole rival, it's incredible just how back we really are.
