Chant du depart became the official anthem of the First French Empire in 1804 under Napoleon Bonaparte. The song was originally written during the French Revolution, but after Napoleon but crowned "Emperor of the French" he changed the anthem replacing the First French Republics anthem (La Marseillaise) witch would become the official anthem after the overthrow of the Bourbon Restoration in 1848.
The version of this song is the Red Army Choir Version because well....it sounds better.
