I only know my late grandpa was once follow his older brother 可可 to Thailand, I have no idea how long he stayed there before he went to Indonesia. That's make him capable to speak, read & write in Thai language. I remember my grandpa used to said : "If you know how spell in Thai than its easy for you to learn Indonesia language". His brother stayed and have a family there. This video kinda take me back in time to picture my grandpa life journey. Thank you Yanyan 🙏

@@lastsundaydrive1 Hi bro, greeting from Indonesia. My late grandpa is also Teochew nang but he only inherited his surname 姓 to me, he never teach me his own Teochew dialect, probably he think it useless, cause I was born in Hakka community and my mom family was also Hakka.

Its an irony when there was a period Siam wasn't so appreciative of chinese immigrants. Thai chinese now bear thai names and subsquent generations no longer associated themselves with chinese or largely Teochew Nangs..

You are well-traveled in China, Kevin! I kinda get your taste. You like the combination of floating bridge and ancient city wall because you also found Ganzhou interesting. Am I right? Haha... I love these two a lot and I prefer Ganzhou because its city wall is more authentic. The one in Chaozhou was recently built and it looks fake to me. I didn't even put it in the video.

@@yanyangoaroundinchina to be honest, i loved Chaozhou because i lived in shantou (as a english teacher) and often visited chaozhou. But i didnt like it because of the restored historical structures. I liked it because it felt romantic. The street near West Lake is so nice to walk down. And s lot of the older buildings have trees growing out of them. And the people are super friendly. And the food (like seafood gwei tiao) is so delicious. Its a charming little city.

@@yanyangoaroundinchina Oh! Guangzhou? We are going to visit Ganzhou next year. Here's in Toronto Canada we have an exciting organization for Hakka communities. And I'm happy to be part of it. Here's the list of the countries we came from ; Mauritius, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Jamaica, Trinidad, South Africa, Union island, Barbados, Madagascar and Ganzhou China. We called ourselves: THHA Toronto Hakka Heritage Alliance. I have mentioned your video to our community about your video. I would like to use your video to promote our wonderful Customs and culture. Sadly, many of us speak very little 客家話. I'm Multi lingual including Mandarin, Meizhou Hakka, English and French.

Teochew people in Vietnam is nearly assimilated into Vietnamese. Now, young Chinese descendants living in Vietnam care less about their roots. I think hardly mention them to the Han mainstream writing & culture. They've not being spent awareness about their ancestry.

In my country, The Philippines, Hokkiens dominated the Chinese Filipino Community, and those of the minority populations of Teochew, Cantonese, Hakka & Hainanese, they can assimilate to the Hokkiens since I never heard them speaking in Cantonese, Hainanese, Hakka & Teochew dialects. But as a Filipino (without a Chinese blood), I wanna learn more about Cantonese, Teochew, Hainanese & Hakka Language, Culture & History, aside from the mainstream Hokkien among Chinese Filipinos & mainstream Mandarin worldwide.

We have to know that even the foreign minister of Laos- Sengsavang Lengsavan was all the descendent of the Han who just migrated in to Laos during the Ming period. Back them these land have no fix border, no visa need, if land empty then just move in, Many Bangkokers are all Han Chinese speak/write Mandarin and Thai. They are the sole main shared control of Thailand manufacturing, service, and structural property of Thailand.

So what local people were before Hokkian moved to Shan Tou' or what Chow Shan people culture before influence by Hokkian? So Chow Jou or Shan Tou people and culture are mixed with local and Hokkian? I want to know exactly What my root from Hokkian or from Shan Tou local people. It seem lot Dia Jiu people have big round double eye because it seem my people are different from people in Chinatowns in US most them have tiny plain eye. Their Fu Jou and Kwang Dong or Cantonese anyway. Are Fu Jou Chinese different from Hokkian people but live in same province but seem they have very different languages. So Chow Jou Chinese root are Hokkian Chinese and their root from middle China too isn't it? Im mixed 1/4 Vietnamese too that give me big round double lid eye and thick lip I guess. My foster dad was very handsome tall man bet he had double lid eye too due im allergic to mono lid eye or something I automatically think their fugly so strange. Some my siblings have jinky eye too. Too bad most oversea Chinese lost their culture become local people like Thailand Vietnamese Malays even American due Chinese writing is so bad m0st oversea Chinese don't want learn so hard to keep be Chinese.
