ive just ran through my first set of K60 Scouts on my DR650 and because its only a 130 rear tire there is no center belt. that version of the scout is the best road tire ive ever ridden (even better than the pirelli diablo rosso 2 i had on my supermoto before). no matter if 20 degrees in the winter or 100 in summer, there was always superb grip and they are very transparent so you feel exactly what theyre doing. wet onroad grip was superb too. even when riding quickly in the twisties they never slid or slipped just like a real rain tire. offroad performance was relatively good as long as it was dry. in the mud they turned into racing slicks in no time. i got around 4500 miles out of the rear (mostly on road with mixed riding) but after 50% tread wear it was just trash in the dirt like a road tire.
I've got an SWM Superdual T fitted OEM with Metzler Tourance tyres. I know they are less than I need to get real confidence in the dirt and forest roads. I hate 'people's opinions' because everyone is an 'expert'.This is the best summation of tyres I have ever seen. Thanks

@@a2bwithlee Hi. On the '20 1250 gsa I went with the Anakee Adventure (22k kms). As Kyle alluded to these tires performed extremely well. Team, this is a fantastic explanation, and really explores the challenges of the 'perfect' tyre. I'd appreciate some discussion on mixing tyres however as they were strictly considered as pairs (with some exceptions). For example, my ADV shop recommended a combo of Tractionator ADV rear and Scorpion Rally front. The logic is that neither set is perfectly balanced for rear and front applications. The higher wear rating on the rear means more slip - not a problem for those of us who don't mind a bit of slip angle off-road. The Scorpion front however is very soft and bites well, particularly when you weight up the front on a descent. Together, this tyre combo runs out at approximately the same time - as long as you don't burn up the Scorpion on-road. So what might improve this explanation, or simply increase its usefulness (it's already fantastic!), would be considerations for which application each tyre is more suited to for those who want to split sets.

Thanks for the first conclusion with the tests. Funny to hear that the K60 scout are expensive in US because in France, it's a very low cost model. One of the cheapest I can buy here. I bet it's been a while since the TKC80 hasn't appeared on a top [x] video. It just goes to show the advancements in the industry. Especially for the Dunlop Mission tyre to make a podium finish on it's first try.
@manybikes4 жыл бұрын
Yeah right!? I tell you .... I tried EVERYTHING to attempt to get the Mission tire to be really what it looks like, an 80/20 tire. BUT, it really did perform and it performed really really well. Pretty nuts. Thanks for watching! - Kyle
@chaparralmotorsports4 жыл бұрын
Yes, that was the interesting part of this test. It really was done tire-by-tire... over the same course. Watching each test back it really is crazy to see how different each of the tire did in each segment. Now... the TKC80 is still a fantastic tire, and it has it's place in the market but there are no SO MANY options that really cater to specific riding styles. Take for example that Avon TrailRider - what a NEAT tire! And the Karoo Street... I'd rock that if I were doing mostly street! But... who needs a street tire if the Dunlop TrailMax mission "feels like a street tire" and handles off road too. Nuts... Thanks for watching! -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team

@@chaparralmotorsports I've ridden about 5K miles on Avon Trailrider tires mounted on my Zero DSR. After trying Kenda K761 / Pirelli MT-60 / Conti Trail Attack 2 / Mitas E07. I ABSOLUTELY love the Avon Trailrider tires. Sure, they aren't great in sand or mud, but with enough throttle they will get through it. But if you like carving turns and blasting dirt roads / 2-tracks, they are fantastic. So predictable even in rain, cold, etc...

Have you determined which ones may be more puncture resistant than the others? An important trait when miles away from anyone/anything.
@chaparralmotorsports4 жыл бұрын
Great question. One could look at our spreadsheet which has tire tread depth, tire weight, and ply make-up to see what tire would appear to have have been made with more puncture resistant materials. Interesting idea though... some sort of puncture tool that would rate what force it takes to push a nail through the tread / carcass. Hummmm.... Thanks for the idea! -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team

Great work in producing this very comprehensive review! I've been on the Shinko 705s (2013 CB500X)for about 50000Km now and am very pleased with them. I would love a more off-road front but, with the 17" front wheel, they only seem to exist in big block tyres - of which the TCK80 really disappointed, which is probably why I don't want the 804/805 combo. I found they wore really fast and became dangerous in the rain on-road. But I need something more capable off road, with more side-wall grip so less of my videos have crashes in them 🤔 Thanks for the review - excellent!

had shinko 800's for 6k touring loaded miles, bias version, they did great in rain on turn pike when half doz cars hydroplaned, I did not. Going radial this time, not sure there's a big difference, we'll see if last longer with less touring miles and radial dissipates heat more/7MPH top speed gain because of that. Ran's Devil's Tail with them, was awesome, they corner, IMHO

Excellent review and I like the way you present the data showing performance first for those for whom that is paramount and then adding in things like cost and mileage that are important to those of us on a budget and who don’t ride at a 10/10ths level that can utilize all of the performance capability of a premium performance tire.

Very good review! I like the fact that you narrate thoroughly enough that I don't need to visually keep track of the discussion but am able to listen to it in the background. Bought the AX41s for my local Oregon gravel roads but aside from being loud, they are performing well on street and inspiring confidence on dirt. Had I known the knobs are so short I may have chosen otherwise, and the rear is wearing quickly in the center. Otherwise so far so good. Thanks again for the review.

What a great, comprehensive review! One thing I was looking for on the 50/50 tires was a "noise rating" on pavement - some of these tires howl loud enough to drown out the wind! Video is 3 years old now.... but any comment on this (specifically the Anakee Wild / TK80 / Bridgestone AX41)
@chaparralmotorsports Жыл бұрын
Glad it was helpful! Sorry we didn't test noise. However, being that they are 50/50 tires noise/whine/howl will be present with them at speed. How much the sound affects you may be determined on your hearing sensitivity, helmet, ear plugs, road type, engine noise etc.
