Hey Kyle, great round up of the 50/50 tires. I think a lot of folks considering a 50/50 tire for their big adventure bikes want to consider road noise as one of their criteria. I've ridden the Karroo 3, the Trail Max Mission, the Motoz Adventure front and rear, and the Motoz Adventure Rear/Dual Venture front. All on a R1200GS. My Trailmax was the quietest, when it was fresh it did pretty well on dirt and gravel but sucked in the mud. It did really well on loose and jagged rocks. It felt great on the road and after 7000 miles I took it off and yet it still has tread left for next summer road trips. I also rode my friends r1200gs with Karoo 3's, it hooked up better in the dirt than the TrailMax but was noisy as hell and also vibrates. before the Trailmaxs I had the Motoz Tractionator Adventure on the front and rear and they hooked up as well as the Karoo 3's but the front was noisy and cupped quickly and vibrated at low speed on the road. Now I have a fresh Adventure Rear and the Dual Venture front and it hooks up great in dirt and gravel, feels very smooth on the road, and it's almost as quiet as the Trailmax. I think for the kind of riding I do (50/50) the Motoz Adventure Rear with Dual Venture Front is a great combo. If I'm going to do a multi state road trip with some gravel roads I put the Trailmax back on.

Fantastic feedback! Yes, the Karoo 3 are some of the bumpiest tires I have ridden on an ADV bike and they are loud too. The Desert HT is the LOUDEST ADV tire I have ever run... like a 4x4 truck on super swampers is running next to you the entire ride... WOW! I had an issue judging noise as I as on like 9 different bikes for all of these tires. The bikes with the Yosh and Leo pipes "tire noise" was not so apparent. However... the Africa Twin, CB500X BMW with stock mufflers the noises were much more pronounced. Thanks for your support! I too LOVE the ADV and DV combo as an all around 50/50 set-up.

Having tried almost every adventure tyre on the market from a Dunlop 606 to a Bridgestone Battleaxe, I can honestly say the Motoz tyres are the best I have ever used. The Tractionator Adventure gives exceptional grip in all conditions, including wet pavement, sand, gravel and mud with and exceptionally long life of 8000km-plus. I am yet to find better and with be sticking with these Aussie beauties for the foreseeable future.

Like the others have said, I really appreciate your review of these tires. I've taken your advice for a few purchases! Two things you may consider including: 1) the difference in cost verses avg mileage. For example, the AX-41 may only have an avg life span. But it cost about $100 LESS than a set of MotoZ Adv Tractionators. (I've used both.) 2) I'm curious about the more aggressive tires that Mitas and Golden tyre offer. Be well! And thanks!

Good call! Thank you for your support. With most people not changing their own tires and a 2k lifespan on the AX41 vs 4k+ on the Motoz a $50 tire change will eat inot that pretty quickly. I too want to run some more Mitas and GoldenTyres. TOUGH TO GET!

Excellent summary, thanks Kyle. One thing you should add as a point of difference between the Motoz Adventure and RallZ: the RallZ (and the GPS) has extra silica and is designed for improved wet performance. The Adventure is ok for DRY mileage, but if you ride in the wet, either on-road or off, consider the RallZ.

I’m about to swap out my Dunlop TMM tires on my 1290 SAS. I got 12,500 miles out of the rear and >20,000 miles out of the front. That said, the last ~3K miles have been all on road (mainly winter commuting), and probably wouldn’t recommend these past 10K miles on the rear and 16K miles on the front for anything off road due to the loss of tread depth. For my purposes, the Dunlop Trailmax Mission has been the perfect combination of compromises, but everyone’s needs are different.

I just finished the Alaska/Deadhorse trip this year. I saw all these tires on route. Several people had the Motaz, and by the time they got to the dirt and mud of the haul road none of them were good enough. Personally i changed out an 80/20 Anakee Adventure in Fairbanks for a TKC 80 for the dirt and mud, did beautifully, and had enough tread left to get myself back to the lower 48. Mine was an 8000 mile trip, 2 set of tires, no regrets. If you don’t have the right tires you can still make it, but you may have to wait 3-4 days for the conditions to be right to finish the ride, saw some Harley’s on road tires do that too. Damn that chandelier shelf.

You can tell who you promote in every video man. Clearly your pushing the motoz tires hard. The fact that your putting them in the same class as the dunlop Trailmax mission is foolish. As someone who's ran them all. The Dunlop Trailmax is a league above any when it comes to the 50.50 class. Especially when it comes to the life of the tire and the off-roading capabilities. It was a game changer when it came out, and there really nothing in the same class the can touch it.
@manybikes
@manybikes Жыл бұрын
Well, I disagree with the Dunlop being the King of 50/50. It’s horrible in mud, wet grass and is a bit slippery on wet pavement. It is a great long lasting tire however. It’s not in the class of the more knobbier tires… I think it’s more in line with a TKC70 rocks.
@TheKingOfKings818
@TheKingOfKings818 Жыл бұрын
@@manybikes when it comes to the life of the tire compared to the knobys of course it's going to last much longer and not be as good in mud. But as an all around tire there isn't anything that can touch the life or capabilities for the style of tire. Including the motoz. I just took off the motoz gps before i had the mission. It is leaps and bounds above what the motoz could offer on the trail. Neither do overly well in mud but the mission shines when doing fast cornering on loose gravel and dirt vs the gps where i would slide out
@manybikes
@manybikes Жыл бұрын
@@TheKingOfKings818 I hear you on that. The center strip of the GPS makes it fail in comparison. I have run the mission on 4 bikes and it is a great tire in its own right. It’s perfectly in between a knobby and an 80/20
@Mightycaptain
@Mightycaptain 2 жыл бұрын
Another important thing to consider is puncture resistance. A softer tire with big gaps between knobs can increase the chance for puncture. Also the stiff sidewall has advantages when hitting rocks and protecting the rims. In that regard it seems the motoz and trailmax have a real edge in both these things. And maybe the trailmax because of the narrow grooves between tread blocks and having the stiffest sidewall.

Hello Kyle, Great informative presentation of different tires. I always look at your KZbin informative films, great job time after time. I am looking for some advise on the following. We are planning a trip in May of about 2500 miles. This will be a mix of tarmac and off-road. My current choise is the MOTOZ Tractionator adventure or Rallz. Now I heard through experience that these tires gives a wobble at higher speeds. The new MOTOZ adventure front tire would minimise that. However that tire is not available in the Netherlands (as far as I know). What tire would you be advising to minimise the wobbling at higher speeds. It would be great if that front tire would last 3000 miles as well. Thanks for your support. Greetings Jan

Thank you for your support Jan Wigger. The Motoz RallZ rear tire should get you about 4k miles and the Adventure 6 to 8k depending on how you ride it. Bummer the new Dual Venture tire is not available where you are at... Thanks for the comprehensive breakdown here Kyle. Trying to figure out what to replace the Trailmax tires on my 1290 with. Still a fair amount of life left in them, but the tread interlock on the rear tire created a smooth center band and makes it hard to put down power on hard packed dirt roads. They are phenomenol on the street though and did a great job on dirt roads for 4000 miles. Gotta find the tire that will do 4000 miles, so I can get a full season out of a set, handles northeast clay, baby heads, but doesn't pick up a wobble at speed. Was thinking AX41s, but you may have swayed me to the Anakee Wild or Motoz Rallz
@manybikes

Yeah... the center strip on the Dunlop TrailMax Missions is a bear... only select tires have it as those specific bikes "needed more stability" for the center blocks. Bummer really. The AX41's are "my favorite 50/50+ tire" but I no longer run them as they wear out way too quickly. Like 2k miles. If you like the Mission... you will LOVE the Motoz RallZ! Give them a shot with the Dual Venture as your front tire. I am running this combo on my 950se at the moment and the front Dual Venture on my 1190 Adv R. Works GREAT!

Hey ! Great content as always, thank you! I have a question for you: Motoz isn’t very spread across the European market… and I’m looking for a more aggressive tire than my current Anakee Wild that are good on dry terrain, but show their limits when it gets soft and muddy. As my Africa Twin is tubeless, i don’t have lots of options: Mitas E-09 or Motoz RallZ. The Mitas is really a good agressive 80% off road, I can’t go wrong with it. However the RallZ is advertised as the most off road oriented tyre of the brand but i seriously doubt it’s more than 50%… Finally comes my questions: - How do you position the Motoz RallZ compared to a Mitas e-09 in terms of off road abilities ? - Could you add Mitas tires in your reviews ? - What other more agressive tubeless tire could you think about that could fit my africa twin, than the two I mentioned for soft and muddy terrains ? Thanks a lot !!

Thanks for your very quick answer ! mitas is easy to get here, and half the price of the motoz. Last two questions for you: So according to you the RallZ is as off road oriented as the E09 ? And as a Motoz experienced pilot, does the RallZ has good traction in the mud? I’m asking because I assume the compound is rather hard if it has a high mileage, which isn’t the best for soft terrain. Thanks !!

Don't know about the RallZ but I've run both the Mitas E10 and E09. There's not much between them for traction IMO but the E09 has bigger tread depth and lasted about 50% longer. Trying the E07+ now and I've just done a 4500km trip both tarmac and gravel with a bit of soft stuff using them and they handled everything well and have lots of tread left. Should get 8-10,000 km from them I'm guessing. I'll be putting the E09's back on when they are shot though, love them and they have better off-road capabilities. The E10 is rated a bit higher in terms of top speed but with the E09 at 170kph that's enough for me. Triumph Scrambler XE.

Excellent video - thank you for sharing your wisdom! I have a 2007 KTM 640 Adventure and my riding experience is heavily-biased to off-road. I currently have DOT approved knobbies, so like a 20/80% on/off road bias. They are not always confidence-inspiring on pavement and are certainly more noisy than most other 50/50 tires I have ridden with, but are excellent in deeper gravel and the dirt; noisy on the road and wear quickly. However, I am looking to move back to more of a 50/50 setup as I want to ride a couple of dual-sport loops into Montana (Whitefish area) and the eastern Kootenay's (Grey Pass) in Canada this summer. I stick to paved secondary highways, dirt double track and gravel roads (these can be more dirt, to double track-worn 'grooves' where the vehicles have pushed the gravel away, to more uniform loose gravel.) Rarely do I ride deep gravel. I want to be able to have the tire longevity to get a 3000-4000 kms out of them this summer to complete these trips without having to replace them during the loops. I estimate the rides will be 50-70% paved with the rest dirt and loose gravel. I weigh 215lbs (plus another 40-ish pounds of gear.) (The Dunlop Trailmax Mission sounded/looked good at 50/50 but given it's weight and I am on a 640, kind of made me wonder...) What would you recommend? Thank you again!

Thanks Kyle for the always comprehensive report! Why don’t you think of adding tire “noise” to the equation? The noise between 50-80 mph was unbearable and I’m not blowing this up, I’m a Motoz fanboy. Psi was 33 and 36. I thought that DV would perform way better in on road noise than the Rallz. Boy was I wrong … shopping for tires again 😔

That is crazy! Maybe my Yoshimura masked the sound or maybe it is the tire size that is the difference. I have only ridden those on the 90/90-21 and they are great and non-noisy. That being said, on the road for 6 hours... crank them up close to 40 psi and the noice will be VERY diminished. The K60 Ranger is on the water and will be here soon, can't wait for that one!

Good Morning Excellent comparison, thank you very much. My question is about the noise. I used the TKC80, it's a very silent tire, I switched to Anakee Wild and I think it's very noisy. I have friends who have the Motoz, it's an excellent tire but extremely noisy. I want to buy an AX41 set, what can you tell me about the noise? Thank you very much and I apologize for my failures in English.

I LOVE the AX41 and it is pretty quite as compared to some of the others. The TKC80 is "middle of the road" when it comes to noise in my book and the Karoo 3 are some of the bumpiest tires I have ridden on an ADV bike and they are loud too. I think you will be happy with the noise level of the AX41 tires.

Hi Kyle, wonderful work. My friend is doing Nashville to the southern tip of South America (Ushuaia) via the Baja, 2022 1250 GSA, about 70 days and 15,000 miles, 75% pavement, 25% gravel roads, no real mud and not super technical riding. What would you recommend between Heidenau K60 Scout and Motoz Tractionator GPS? And biggest reason/factor? Thanks.
@manybikes
@manybikes 10 ай бұрын
I would totally recommend the GPS. Reason is the tire compound. The Heidenau is more like plastic and the Motoz is more like rubber. Wet weather of the Motoz is way better... and it can be mounted in the mostly off road direction for superior traction. Check this one out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qp2ZemaencShaZI

Any chance you could dive into some front tire reviews? All my buddies run the TKC80 front but I hate how quickly it gets cupped and it never lasts as long as my rear tire (Motoz Adventure) and I've just had the same experience with the Bridgestone front. Would be great to get some of your mileage/testing/networking expertise on the best front tires for mileage+traction+on road performance. Thanks again for all your hard work!

Hey Kyle, I ride a 2019 1250 GS as my only means of transportation so it has to be able to commute with comfort as well as support my weekend adventures for camping etc. I ran a set of the trail max missions and loved their mileage and pavement performance but found them to be seriously lacking in any type of mud or wet earth situation. After getting stuck once and having to hike out 7 miles for help and having them slide sideways into a mud hole another time I abandoned that tire. I ride alone 99% of the time so getting stuck is not acceptable. I’m currently on a set of the Moto Z tractionaters and my main complaint with them, truly my only complaint after 7000 miles, is that they howl like a banshee between 35 and 70 mph. I’ve been looking at the Anakee wild as it is reported to have good manners off and on road. Can you comment on road noise of this tire, or any other of the 50/50’s you’ve tested? All your testing and documentation and comments are much appreciated.

@prepper_nation_h

My experience is that the Anakee Wild lulls you into a false sense of comfort initially because when they are brand new they are *relativity* quiet and smooth, but after you've worn them in 25-50% they get really quite noisy and transmit a lot of vibes through the handlebars. At least that was my experience on my DL650. They are great performers in all other respects, though, but I would avoid buying them again myself just due to noise and vibration.

The front 😣 Off road it has a mind of its own 🤭 Keeps sweeping left and right and doesn’t really give me much confidence. Not sure if it’s caused by the bike being light or because the 390 adv doesn’t have front end stabiliser/damper.

I hear you! I have two bike that I can't even tippy toe on both sides. While tippy toeing on one side... the seat is in the crook of my knee on the other side. It is a struggle. In answer to your question, For a shorter tire, I would suggest the Bridgestone AX41 as its lugs are half the height of the Motoz and while the same size on the sidewall... the tire does feel a bit shorter. There is not a shorter sidewall tire that fits your bike. Now, a FIX that several people I now have done is they have gone to 19" front and 17" rear tires. Those rims do have lower profile tires and in combination with the 2" up front and 1" in the rear wheel diameters, this really does help. Woody makes wheels for your bike in this set-up. Not cheap, but functional. Good luck!

Traction was not as good as the MotoZ Hard Terrain but quieter on the highway and better grip in the twisties. Overall I am very pleased with them. I have a set in the garage... I am supposed to go "tire test them" but I really don't want to take them out. I love the AX41... but I am afraid the new Bridgestone is just too street oriented for an ADV bike that goes off road.

If it were me... I'd run the Motoz GPS in the rear and the Dual Venture up front. Thus would give amazing longevity and good dirt / mud traction. The front tire will need to be flipped once or twice, but it'll be worth it!

How would you compare the TKC70 Rocks to Scorpion Rally STR? Street, dry dirt/gravel, mud..?
@manybikes
@manybikes 8 ай бұрын
This is a very great question… I think on the street the two tires perform very similarly. In the dirt, however, I do believe that in a straight line the STR does a really good job… But if there’s any camber to the hill or more side bite is needed the TKC 70 rocks Performs much better. I have found that the TKC 70 rocks performed surprisingly good in the mud, which was not expected all in all, both are great tires and wall. They are similar to the TKC 70 rocks as a better performer.

Hi there. New subscriber here and fairly new on topics about tires. I have a crf 300 rally and i wanted to change my stock tires to a pirelli str rally, my only problem is that the rally's stock tires are not tubeless, it has inner tube, would it be ok to change into the str even though the str's a tubeless tire? I've read about it that it's no problem putting in an inner tube on a tubeless tire but i'm not really a 100% confident about it. Any thoughts?

Welcome aboard! Thanks for your comment. Yes, you can totally run a tube in most tubeless tires. A lot of ADV tubeless tires actually say on the side, if putting on a tube type rim, insert a tube. You can do it without fear.

The E07(+) is more geared towards the Motoz GPS tire. I have run all three of these tires in the same exact places and the E07 felt more like an 80/20 tire than a 50/50 tire. I got much more hook-up and straight line drive from the Motoz GPS tire than the E07+ Dakar. E07 I see as just less aggressive than any of the Motoz.

Hey Kyle, can you recommend a couple tires for my bike and style of riding. I’m 67 years old and upon retirement I purchased a new 2021 Honda CRF 250L to ride the backcountry paved roads in WV and PA. My riding is 80% blacktop (unlined roads) and 20% gravel. I do NO single track (mud) riding on this bike. The stock IRC’s have worked fine but was wondering if there is something else I should consider. I still have the original tires on it with about 4300 miles so it’s time for a new tire on the rear for sure. I appreciate your feedback and recommendations.
