48:34 This is the 2nd time in recent memory that I’ve heard chapo reference guys “reading Infinite Jest” in public, but I don’t quite get the trope… based on context clues I’m assuming it’s the ‘move’ of a ‘Guy’ of some sort (reactionary guy move? MRA guy move?). I’m not on any social media though, and anytime something on the show goes over my head it’s typically safe to assume it’s a Twitter Thing. I remember about 12-15 years ago (in real life) there was a brief phase of people ostentatiously reading _IJ_ in public places. it was mainly hip 20-somethings signaling their intellect (/pretentiousness). But like, the type people who had recently studied “____ and Marxism” in college (ie. the type of people that went on to form Chapo Trap House). So I’m hitting up against some cognitive dissonance trying to suss this trope out. (also full disclosure, I never read the book and am only vaguely familiar with its contents in broad strokes… but maybe it’s an allusion to the actual material?)
