Chapo's Matt and Felix Review The Wire (Time for my Stories)

Time for my Stories is a podcast about analyzing TV shows hosted by Matt Christman and Felix Biederman from Chapo Trap House. Previously only available through a now-defunct app, this show is now at risk of becoming lost media.
The Wire is an American crime drama television series created and primarily written by American author and former police reporter David Simon. The idea for the show started out as a police drama loosely based on the experiences of Simon's writing partner Ed Burns, a former homicide detective and public school teacher. Set and produced in Baltimore, Maryland, The Wire introduces a different institution of the city and its relationship to law enforcement in each season while retaining characters and advancing storylines from previous seasons. The five subjects are, in chronological order; the illegal drug trade, the port system, the city government and bureaucracy, education and schools, and the print news medium. Simon chose to set the show in Baltimore because of his familiarity with the city.

Does no one actually remember all the extremely on-the-nose Iraq war stuff from the Sopranos? It's a 1000x more thuddingly obvious and overdone than that one Slim Charles line. Entire *characters* and arcs are Jon Stewart-esque jokes about Bush and Cheney. When little Carmine meets with Rusty Millio to talk about going to war with Johnny Sack every other line is a reference to some Iraq War thing from that era. This is possibly their worst take. David Simon is a horrible Twitter poster and they let that color their interpretation of the work, which stands alone. Nothing in the text of the Wire says better schools will save those kids. Nothing about Hamsterdam says voting for Democrats and incremental liberalism will solve urban drug problems. The Wire is revolutionary work, even if the writer and creator is enlightened centrist.

Yea this is such a Twitter mind take from them. Also, I rewatched the wire and Felix (who has stated this often) the show has not “aged poorly”. The thing that drives me the most INSANE is the leftist Twitter brain damaged take “it’s copaganda!” The show goes into detail that in the entire Baltimore PD there is a whopping 8 semi competent not that lazy cops in the entire department

@@shanemac1646 Even the competent cops do shady shit. I watched s1 and didn’t like any of the cops w maybe the exception of Lester. They lie and manipulate people all the time. David Simon was a police reporter and he said that the main difference between TV detectives and real detectives is that the real ones don’t care about the victims. They become callous and treat it like a job. That 100% comes across in The Wire; even the “good” cops mostly just want overtime pay. A bunch of girls die in season 2 and only the female port cop gives a fuck. McNulty is a selfish asshole and the show is very clear about that.

Their Iraq war take from slim Charles is so dumb. 1- slim was right, by that time they were in too deep and the truth did not matter by that point 2- Avon had come to the conclusion that the war was actually stupid and the natsayers in his crew were right 3 Marlo who you could view in this lense as the insurgents I guess, WINS THE WAR.
