When Matt talks about how people in politics, once they know that by getting into political office they don't get to actually affect anything, devolve into serial narcissists who can do nothing but talk about themselves, apply it to the rest of society, and it strikes me: it's almost as if not having any power or agency weakens you, degenerates your character, and makes you into a wreck.

@@mcmasters1484 The US president is and always has been essentially a figurehead, much to Bush and Obama's chagrin. They definitely tried to extend executive power, but they didn't succeed. The fact that the USA is the only thing Trump has ever "controlled" yet never fully tanked basically proves it. The real power lies with the house, and it's sick that everyone complains about politics, but statistically almost never vote out incumbent senatorals/congressions. And you can't even vote in/out Supreme Courterinas. It's almost like votes mean nothing.

The SC was not meant to decide social policy for the entire country... many Democrats love having the Sword of Damocles dangling over abortion rights in this country. It gets people to the polls.

I also dont really think they go at Ezra too much here either, cant really remember. Ezra lives in the real world of politics and has to operate in it, he is not a too cool for school guy wearing sweatpants making a podcast. I love Chapo and think they are very funny and smart, but they are basically out of touch rich kid comedians who say whatever they want. I'd like to see them go after Matt Taibbi and his hypocrisy. 13:34 an unfortunate truth that victims of smearing campaigns can attest to, is that people appeal to the power structure for convenience and often lie to themselves about the necessity to do so. obama's failing here can be just as easily said for the 2016-2020 left's lack of direct outreach to gerrymandered communities in the forms of things as basic as rides (we lost key elections in districts where energy could have been singularly focused) and overfocus on placating conservatives temper and edge lording about not calling trump supporters dumb or racist, alienating the most consistent demographic thats, at least for the time being, the back bone of anything the left would want to accomplish, all of which resulted in more votes for trump by those placated conservatives in 2020.
