Depends if it's declared. Now I don't know what the necessary procedures are in the Supreme Court, but in this case the issue wasn't what he was doing, instead that he wasn't admitting /registering it. It's not illegal to receive most of these gifts, but they have to be declared. As by not doing so (in his case claiming not to accept any case) it smacks of corruption. Other than fire department thing, that'd be dodgey even if the gifts were declared!
