Hot Couch Guys have a place in society, too. Honestly, if for some bizarre reason you needed to get your hands on crystal meth on short notice, who among the people you know would you go to? Is there any doubt in your mind, or did the words "crystal meth" immediately make you think of a Hot Couch Guy you know? Don't lie.

I lived on a hot couch in LA for a year in my teens. Overpriced student apartment with 2 bedrooms, 4 gay Japanese guys and a flamboyant Spanish dude. I was too cheap to get my own room so I slept in the living room. Looking back I'm not sure if those were good times or extremely depressing. Somewhere in between I guess.

I used to hang out at a house down the street from me which was absolutely this hot couch house. 2010-2012, the TV always had either a shitty ass movie or a Halo or Skate game, somehow always a 24 pack of coors light despite everyone being broke, we'd go outside every 15 minutes to smoke Marlboro 27's, homie had 2 snakes and like 3 dogs but one died because someone put lemonade vodka in it's water bowl and it literally got so sick it vomited itself to death but no one ever owned up to it, I was the only person who hung out there that had a job except for one dude who lost his job at gamestop because he stayed up until 11am playing minecraft on the xbox 360 and missed his shift for the 6th time, one dude who always walked barefoot and his feet looked like if you left a steak out in the sun for a week, and one dude stayed there for a month and gave everyone scabies. Very specific image for me

My hot couch house had three couches in the living room. I almost moved into that house, but the lock to the door was busted and their pitbull used that room specifically as a bathroom. No amount of carpet shampooing got rid of the smell, and nobody seemed concerned about fixing the lock. I wonder where they all are now. I don't miss it, but I miss the DVD menus, though.

I draw on my walls and listen to Insane Clown Posse. I also study behavioural neuroscience and... A LOT of other shit. What's funny is my interests developed because I wanted to be the world's greatest artist or some shit. I'm over that now, at least, and I say that artists are just cultural scientists who have no fucking clue what they're doing. But then, that itself is reductive, it's why the very concept of 'art' is of interest to cultural scientists. If I'm trying to distinguish between what's 'good' or what has 'artistic merit' then I'm going to say A Tribe Called Quest is good, but ICP have artistic merit. What's the distinction? Well, the very concept of artistic merit is subject to intersubjective judgment, surprisingly, this varies quite a bit depending on the medium. In music, especially within the context of 80s and 90s rap, ICP are the outsiders, in every respect of the word. Outsiders to the macroculture, outsiders to the subculture. As it turns out 'art' has a lot to do with narcissism and cults of personality. I think that's why it can be so nebulous, why so many critics "get it wrong" after so many years have passed, because literally every artist is often motivated by the same forces of mindless self indulgence (hey, those guys are the best kinds of artists, outsiders and totally self-aware, hence the name of their band, I assume) that motivate most humans, with some exceptions (Diogenes of Sinope, Baruch Spinoza, et alia). Insane Clown Posse were, and are, great. They fell to the same folly that most of these rock stars do, but their culture was dead on. It attracted a certain type, and then once those white trash people were within the inner layers, they had a lot of useful songs to help rehabilitate them.
@timothybell56984 жыл бұрын
I could easily be convinced 90% of hip-hop feuds are performative, just to highlight the nature of publicity in a subtle, "artistic", way.
@tonycampbell1424 Жыл бұрын
Not gonna lie, I hate ICP and everyone I've ever met who liked them was pure, irredeemable scum. The type with like 17 kids who goes on a Crack binge with the rent money and gets evicted every nine months or so.
