Being called a Drag Queen by a Drag Queen is such a compliment. It's not only makeup and hair, its also about being accepted and feeling part of a community. It's such a raw form of self expression.

Good lord what is up with this comment section. First of all no crayola (the drag queen who opened for her) did not “slander” her by comparing how she performed to drag. Clearly Chappell didn’t feel slandered because if she did she wouldn’t have incorporated drag into her performance style or referred to what she does as a “drag project”. As well as that there is a general vibe here that comparing Chappell Roan to a drag queen is disrespectful or negative in some way. That is some baggage that I don’t have time to unpack today lmao.

I think gender is intrinsic to it but that only captures Chappells place in it even moreso. Her giving space between personal and persona is true to life and gender plays out in how you perform. As an artist, it's not all that thought out --if it's there it's there. If it's not there for you, you don't even have to move on but don't interfere with other people's self interpretation imo (General statement).

@@EC-wo9yw drag is a term used to encapsulate the art forms that are incorporated into drag. such as gender expression/freedom, costume/design/makeup/fashion, hypermasculine/feminized theatre, dancing and music. that allows it to also b used as a job descriptor. everything has a label/name and drag has a meaning and specific objective behind it that can’t be applied to other art forms just like Circus being the label for any traveling company performance that includes acrobatics, clown performance and knife throwing, etc.

Is she just holding her upper lids lower to look disinterested and unbothered, or is that somehow related to her eyelids being pulled by a brow lift? It reminds me of flaws that upper blephs can cause, but it seems she's adopted the look for aesthetic purposes as well, so I can't tell if it's a wholly intentional choice. Either way, that look is a big reason I can't get into her music, because it feels like she wants to project a kind of acerbic unfriendliness

Even the most boring, straight person understands the concept of “masking”. We wear different faces, speak with different lingo or cadence depending on the group we’re speaking to or hanging out with. Drag takes that concept to a whole other level. Think of the Troubadours who would travel the countryside, bringing their stories, plays, circuses to the common folk. Allowing them a brief respite from the hard work and toil that made up the vast majority of their lives. The art, the show, the feats, the costumes, masks, the thrown voices. It did more than entertain. It brought the news of the capital to those who would otherwise have no knowledge of what was happening outside of their small towns. Drag is just one of the many art forms that does that for us today. So do our Olympic games. So does theater, art and craft shows and even Renaissance fairs. Allow us to be less uptight! Some folks I am seeing REALLY need this stuff. Badly!!

No hate at all, but i just found it a bit funny that her drag name is so unique and memorable compared to her granola birth name Kayleigh. It makes sense that she'd want to differentiate herself so drastically from it.

From what I remember, Chappell was her grandpa's last name and Roan from a song he loved called The Strawberry Roan. I'm pretty sure that's where it came from which I think is really cool and very sweet.

It's like watching someone that's invested a lot of time into pretending to be an artist trying to understand in slow motion about a basic concept artists having a stage persona. She probably thinks Alice Cooper stays in character at Walmart too. Did she's never watch Hannah Montana as a child?

Drag as an art form is using performance and spectacle to elevate and accentuate one's identity, especially when it comes to gender. So yeah, I'd say Chappell falls into that umbrella.

Hold on! She was getting arsy the other day and told people to never call her Kayleigh, and then says this? So if people see you in the street without the clothes and makeup they can call you Kayleigh, you know, your actual name! 🙄

@ezrafriesner8370 21 күн бұрын
Except you don’t know her as anything other than a media personality. Even if you meet her in the street, you’re a fan, not a regular person, so you use the name she uses with people who don’t know her personally
