One of the things I miss the most about my dad is connecting over music. He was a true kid of the '80s, and I loved all of "his" music, from classic rock to ska to Italian songwriters and everything in between. But he was also really interested and appreciative of "my" music. He loved Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Adele, Paolo Nutini. I used to come into the living room and find him jamming out to blues covers of Meghan Trainor songs. I put this video on as background and found myself tearing up thinking about how much he'd like this performance. He'd definitely get her aesthetic references, I mean, this was the man who showed me Rocky Horror and Priscilla Queen of the Desert as a kid. He'd be so impressed by the artistry showed by Chappell Roan here. It's been two years and sometimes I still can't believe I can't just send him this video and geek out with him. Miss you, dad.
