Living in Northwest Arkansas while Black. Is it really that bad?

I don't see how anyone can honestly say Arkansas isn't a racist place, that's just absurd. Maybe NWA isn't racist as long as you don't go South, East, North or West of Bentonville. lol... It's different in the South, the Racist people here are still polite so you never really know who you're dealing with. There are many parts of this state that are not safe for ANYONE but especially minorities, it's just a fact. Hopefully things will change eventually...

Hello thanks so much for the info …. I was planning to move the family to Arkansas in a few month and was trying to find a decent area… I like that the area has so many things to offer but I also have anxiety about it as I’m married to a very stocky black man and have 2 boys that look “threatening” to certain groups….. Coming from the Houston area we have not experience a lot of outward racial indifferences as the city is so diverse and I was worried that this may be an issue if I moved to that area still considering it but very wary!

I used to have hope that race relations would get better through unification of a common faith such as Christianity. As I have gotten older I have lost hope because I see that one race perceives Jesus as white, and another race perceives Jesus as black. While they each have a right to their own opinion, if races cannot step outside of their race and accept the truth of the Bible that Jesus was middle eastern, then there perhaps is no hope. Before I became a Christian my earthly body was Caucasian. But I when I became a believer and found Jesus, I became born again and part of the body of Christ the Bible tells me. No matter what color your earthy body you are born in, if you have become a believer trusting in Jesus, then to me you are a fellow member of the body of Christ the Bible says.

Lived in NWA for 12 years and the area is like no other! The schools is good, little to no traffic and schools are great! However, people here are blantly racist! Depending on what industry you work in and your desire to expand business wise you could thrive here. I haven't met many openminded non-colored people. However, I guess it depends on what your connections are etc. As you mentioned, the weather is hot but the tornadoes hardly ever affect the area due to the area being so hilly. Overall, it is a great place to raise a "family" but maybe not idea for a "black family". I chose to stay and make the best of it because it is almost impossible to find an area that welcomes blacks, low cost of living, low crime etc. so I guess you take it for what it is. I can say that other black families that I have met has shared that it was a easier transition for them when they came with like a group of family/friend and moved to the area because they then already had connections and grew connection from each other. And I too have to drive all the way to Little Rock to get my hair did! Those 3 hours suck. Most of the black beauticians in the area either offer limited services or they relocate so yes LR is our best options but I enjoy every trip to LR! They can split a scalp LOL

Right. I'm a marshallese teenager and my people came here because the U.S bombed my island which is why there are a lot of Marshallese people here in NWA, the school I'm going to is good and fun, the only thing holding it back is the racism here

That's the good thing about NWA is the diversity! This is where I grew up so it's not that fun for me unfortunately but it's a great place if your new here!

😂😂😂 I’m so sorry to crash the party. I love this video from jump. I grew up in Clearwater Florida, and I made an offer on some land today and north Arkansas, I think 🤔. Literally sight unseen. And I I struggled to go into certain parts of North Carolina, because there was not enough diversity. Being a white woman you may think this a strange post. But growing up in Florida, and there is a lot of diversity, especially in central and south Florida. I appreciate when you said “where is civilization”. That is absolutely some thing I would say I’m stepping out of my comfort zone and the city. Thank you for breaking barriers. Great video.
