12:29 is genuinely one of my favorite moments in this story. It sums up what I love so much about Riko. The Abyss, this Lovecraftian ecosystem that either drives you insane or kills you, is looked at with nothing but awe and childlike wonder by her. Never feeling actual fear for the place, even in moments when she's coughing up blood or has poison running through her body. And said childlike wonder is so infectious that it's why people like Reg and Nanachi love this journey as much as her. It's just like how Wazukyan manages to inspire people to follow him down there, punctuated by Riko echoing his "yaaaaaay!". One of my favorite protagonists ever.

Riko really deserves their White Whistle status. She has grown so much as a character, but not once betrayed her own character writing as her morals are views are still very much her own. Really adore how our giant-foreheaded child has become such a strong and necessary character to this entire franchise.

It really is something special. Akihito has done such a fantastic job at creating a world that feels vast and lived in. I also love how we obtain information in a really natural way and are also able to question the world created with our understanding of it. Its like learning a new language and trying to figure out how to speak it fluently. It rules

Not really. There's tons of works that are very prolonged with no real progression, and tons of works that are short, simple, and sweet. I would say it's ironic how a low chapter manga can pull off a better story than a manga with tons of chapters but with inferior writing, but at this point it's pretty well known that length =/= quality.

every new chapter is a treat. once again, you outdid yourself ! especialy rimeyo and neyozel chemistry. the chapter, being the first of volume 13, really feels like the "turning point" of the arc. we've been introduced to the fact that the umbra hands are active players in this arc, the joint expedition is on their way to meet the shrine maiden and the Katchaba is setting it all off ! i'm repeating myself like a parot, but this arc is by far my favorite one !

i have a theory as to why the birthday diseas doesn't affect people on the lower layers, it's kinda like risk and reward, if someone just works a job on the surface, the abyss cannot eat it, and therefore decides to kill it to replace it, to put it simply, the abyss doesn't give you a choice, you either die from the birthday disease on the surface, or die in the abyss, since the abyss probably expends energy to make the soul phenomenon, it kills the people it can't feed from, and as such, the soul is probably some kind of poison made by the abyss to selectively eat the best source of food, being courageous delver, they aren't affected by the birthday diseas because the abyss is feeding off of their minds and soul, and it can't do that if they're dead, while the fauna in the abyss is probably some sort of defense system to push back the cowardly people, which the abyss probably sees as very bad food, so only the brave ones delve deep enough for the abyss to feast on them.

Interesting theory, but given the conversation turned to "soul", there's likely a connection to one's soul who's been near or in the Abyss, and this possible "disease". The mention of "impure" being some criteria I think bears merit. There's more to it than what we're getting so far, so keep pondering and sharing!

Finally, a good chapter, Tsukushi has only one excuse for such a slow development of the plot, he thinks through the God tier plot. Made in Abyss has so many Chekhov guns that haven't been fired yet, so many possibilities and potential. For me, the next chapters that will be released in August will be crucial in terms of whether I will follow this story or not. By the way, you have wonderful animation and a selection of music. How do you always make videos that great. Oh my god that final, how did you manage to make it so cool and dramatic plus the 2 pages, the way you switched from one to the other, it was insane. I also liked the details. Like the way you animated things at 1:40, or Rimeyo's head movement. The plastic duck sound at 3:31 caught me off guard and made me laugh so much lmao. The fog transition at 4:28, there are a lot of little details that make this animated chapter insane. I often say that it's in the details that we see the difference between a good work and a master piece. (btw am i crazy or at 5:22 and other parts you used sounds of animals we see in ori and the blind forest / will of the wisp ? maybe i'm just crazy) I really hope Nanachi is gonna be find and i don't really know why but Tepasté is hiding something i think, her reactions made me think that. Btw every time i see "Our adventure continues" it fills me with joy and hapiness. Great work as always dude, i'll see you next chapter !

Mickell does it again, you nailed it. Even the voices for srajo & co were done perfectly dude! I also love how in this chapter we really get a sense that we’re trekking through unknown territory. Before this it felt like Lyza was able to help with her recorded knowledge paired with riko and nanachi’s experience, but now it’s emphasized that this layer has so much thats unknown to even a white whistle like Srajo. It feels more like “Riko-san squad” is pioneering🦾😤. And the whole thing about souls is just.. god its as interesting as it is headache inducing lol! You took this banger chapter from Akihito and made it 10 times more enjoyable and immersive (esp w the sound design n music, man). Plss never stop doin these!

Amazing work, always love seeing how well you do Faputa and her silly movements and you captured really well the unique beauty of what we saw of the layer in this chapter. Well, Well, well here I am. Ya know? After I stopped watching Ferien and the journey's end I kinda had a bit more free time than before, so I started thinking about watching another show. Soon after I started getting Made in Abyss content in my youtube recomendations. Commentaries describing it's 'horror' or 'how hell is made', your animated manga chapters were there too. Didn't think about it too much at first because in comparrison with the cutsie artstyle I saw in the thumbnails I thought the strong words were used for clickbait...*ohh how wrong I was.* Then I started thinking and remembered that it wasn't the first time I heard about the anime series, I saw it years back while similarly searching through youtube and didnt think much of it. So...I decided to give it a watch. At the start I thought it was going to be just that, a cutsie adventure like I thought at the start. The city of othr was beautiful, just like the natural enviroement of the first layer. Then, right in the first episode...the crimson splitjaw scene. The way they showed Nat just...straight up bleeding, Riko geniuenly fearing she broke her arm, and the way the Crimson Splitjaw was THIS close to just killing her. Sure she was saved by someone she would later discover to be a strange cyborg boy she named after her dog but...that lack of, dare I say 'training wheels'. That contrast between the beautiful enviroement and setting, and the very real danger of living this close to a strange not fully explored and understood 'Abyss' of a hole...it hooked me on right from the start. So...I saw what everybody else saw while watching the anime for the first time. I saw Reg struggle with the VERY real chance he could kill Riko while trying to save her from the corpse weepers. I saw how Ozen unceremonially BEAT into our Reg and Riko just how dangerous beings they will meet if they continiue. Then...after all that, the way Riko was just...straight up dying due to the combination of 4th layers curse of bleeding, and the poison. Regs desperation in this moment, his genuine tears. I...I cried. Like...I just had a reaction of 'Ohh, OHH, OHH SHES DYIN'. Then Nanachi showed up and I kid you not, my first thoughts were 'LMAO BIG CHUNGUS' with that outfit of hers. Then I learned about mitty. *PAIN* How she cried when Reg did 'release' her. And the cooking. I swear, cooking scenes were just too...too hmm. They appeared in a way like the were an integral part of the journey, which they were, no suprises here. The way the ecosystem and scenery of each layer differed from one another, the way the show fluidly mixed the sense of awe at the beauty of the abyss, best manifested in Riko's sheer excitement. The way the lasting psychological trauma just...slid off her brain like...how?! If you put adults through half the shit she went through their therapists would earn VERY early retirements! And yet...she pushed on. Pushed past the 'Hitler experimenting with jugend in Mendele levels of human rights violations' ohh, if you didn't guessed thats how my brain indentified the Bondred. Ohh Bondred...I...I thought from the mment of seing him that If I got a revolwer loaded with heavy magnum rounds and him tied to a strong chair, I'd put first two bullets to delete his kneecaps, third into his crotch, fourth into his heart, and last two into the head of this inhuman psychopath. HEHEHEHE. THEN...I realized that the monster is immortal, so If I did this to him, he'd just stand back up, complement my aim and effectiveness of my attempt to kill him, and then he'd just ask for a copy of the revolver. HE...He's a SPECIAL kind of fukin twisted. Then was the second season. HMM. THE VILLAGE HMM. I...I cried again when I saw the HORROR of its creation. And how NO SINGLE PERSON could take the whole blame, like that daft punk looking mf i spoke earlier. I...after all that I...wanted more. So at first read the manga chapters the normal way while blasting anime's soundtrack in my headphones. Up to the chapter 38, then I watched these animated manga chapters of yours right up to this one. Discovered the sheer shitpost potential the reddit subreddit of Made in abyss has to offer, the sheer absurd some youtube meme compilations had to offer. I... It all just ENTRENCHED itself a place in my mind. Never ever have a show/manga...ehh...a story...resonated with me at this level. It was simply...*wonderful*. So what now? Now I will return to my usual life, my duties and studies of biotech. I'll wait a year or two or three or how much will it take for the manga to reach the end. Heard the author plans around a hundred chapters or so, so it will take time. BUT...when that happens...I will make my return, I'll rewatch the anime, the animated manga chapters (hope by then you will cover all the ones between 1 and 38), and this... ...will truly be a...*SUBARASHI* of an experience. Maybe If I get a partner by then I could terrorize her with it? Heh heh...ehh. Yeah thank you for reading my little essay explaining my recent experience with Made in Abyss. Balls of steel if Nanachi is dead, this character's introduction was pretty much the reason most new people got into it because the design was crazy good, and frankly it is pretty early but it could make the story more powerful. Everyone will be sad if Nanachi is gone and for some people they may even stop following this series if Nanachi dies, in my case I think Reg is interesting enough to keep it going but I don't think killing Nanachi off here is the right move.

I've been watching your videos for a few years now and its amazing how fluid you animation is getting! What software do you use?

I use photoshop to cut out the characters from their panels and then after effects to animate them (using the puppet tool, wigglerama and a plugin for the hair movements mostly). I then throw it all together in premiere where I add music and sound effects 🙏

I think Nanachi has been captured by something rather than decimated by it. However, there is no confirmation of either result just yet. Its deliberately ambiguous (though Reg extending his arm past where nanachi's hat is, and the motion-lines pointing beyond where they were attacked seems to aid the theory that Nanachi has been abducted, not killed).

Mostly on KZbin :) Because these videos are based on my own personal interpretation of the source material, I tend to use music that I have a personal connection to. I want these videos to feel personal which is why the musical scores are quite sporadic. I tend to use music from Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and even Pokemon games because I grew up playing them so I got quite familiar with their music :)

She is likely to be abducted. Reg said that "he can no longer smells Nanachi". That's when Srajo came into conclusion that this is a "Sensory anti-phase", a negotiation of senses. If we consider how there's an entity that negotiates with Reg's mind (during the Idofront arc, during his dark form) and was able to do "that" (sensory anti-phase) on forcefield. That means, the "Maelstrom danger zone" is likely to be a trap made by an "individual" who was able to "overwrite" the rule of the abyss, much like Reg. We can assume who's that "individual" now. Non other than the "girl type".

I think what is also fascinating about that final moment is that it seems like whatever it is that has abducted Nanachi, had planned to capture the twins originally. That whole situation was planned more-or-less implying it to be a trap of sorts. I think what we are dealing with isn't "a creature" but something far more complex than that.
