The Sgt’s nightmare was brought on by the sorcerer tapping into his fear for what could happen to Titus. The whole point of this episode/story was to give us background on Titus and solidify our concerns of his fate. Titus, knows no fear. Titus is for all descriptive purposes the perfect space marine. He literally has no fear, a moto of the Astartes to live by, Titus is fearless and so chaos or any enemy/situation has no hold/control over him. The Emperor literally commands him to get up at the SpaceMarine2 final scene. Titus isn’t going anywhere except into the heat of battle.
@rankcolour87804 күн бұрын
There's a little more to it than that. Even before the sorcerer enters his mind to confront him he isn't effected the same way as the other brothers. They all have significant physiological responses to the warp craft, dilated pupils, etc. Titus has none of that his pupils don't even twitch, he genuinely is somehow warp-resistant. If course he is still a bad ass who knows no fear but there is 100% more going on. They would not leave such a massive detail in without it being deliberate.
@khalless8053 күн бұрын
In the horus heresy novel "Angels of Caliban", one of the terran Dark Angels that served alongside the Emperor has his mind probed by two librarians of the legion. Both are knocked out of his mind by a "giant glowing golden ball of light, akin to a sun next to the candle that they were". When asked about this by the librarian, the space marine in particular gloats about the fact that the Emperor personally warded the first space marines against warp mind attacks. Watching Titus' resistance in both games and combined with the Secret Level episode, I think he will probably be kept around as a steadfast tool against chaos corrupting sorcerers... Which would be swell considering the next daemon primarch that will return is Fulgrim, and likely the next one will be Lorgar. We already know Chairon is from Calth, a survivor of the Word Bearer's attack there. I also don't remember if Kor Phaeron (the author of said attack) is dead or not... We have all the pieces for amazing content. On a final note. We still don't know what the Amazon series will be about, but I can see Cavill as Titus 100%.

One of two, the obvious one is that Leadros still hates Titus and wants him dead so he suggested him for the mission. But we can’t ignore that Titus has now stopped two chaos incursion, and we see in the Secret Level episode there’s a destroyed Titan and signs of previous fighting on that world. It’s entirely possible that this was just a mission that needed to get completed and Titus has proven time and again to be incredibly effective against chaos

Does it make sense to send your 'best' to stop a threat? Yes. Is it easier to cope with the sacrifice if you hate the men you send? Yes. Titus needs his own mini-series to cover his exploits in detail since making games of this caliber for DLC or other games takes a ton of resources. He's mistrusted by his own brothers, the Inquisition still has a eye up even though they judged him untainted, then he's making a bit of a name for himself slaying Chaos lords. Truthfully? I love the guy 100%. He's turning into a jaded loyalist slowly but surely and those are the BEST kinds of loyalists let alone Ultramarines.

(How Cato got that promotion he was drooling over for years). Calgar gave a firm no to Titus return when contacted at first, but eventually after the events of the galaxy split and being pressed from all sides they brought him back. I disagree that Leandros wants to get rid of Titus. I know that people love to bust Leandros for what he's done to Titus in SM1, but I actually think he started to trust Titus a little more. He knew that Titus was the only one who could make a difference on this mission. Sending 4 random marines is a certain failure, while Titus and his mysterious Warp resistance could give an upper hand to the squad and lead them to success (and it did). If Leandros doesn't trust Titus, then there's no point in sending him on this important mission - he could sabotage it, make things even worse. If Leandros wants to catch Titus on heresy, he must keep him close, watch his every step, not send him on crucial missions that involve daemons and ancient artifacts. Plus, on this particular mission the squad was out of reach of the command vessel, it's even easier for Titus to sabotage everything, get rid of his squad with the sorcerer's help and then pretend like he's the only survivor (or just run away and join some warband eventually). I understand that people are eager to see Leandros get unalived in Space Marine 3, but I actually think the whole third game should be about Leandros learning from his mistakes and starting to trust Titus fully. (and then get stabbed in the back because we all know that Titus is an Alpha Legion spy)

Chaplain Leandros trying to kill Titus is a red herring. It's definitely the work of Captain Acheron who is trying to off him before Titus can replace him. The key piece of evidence is found in the Iron Halos, you can see Calgar absorb the time altering affects with his Iron Halo but in the Secret Level episode you have a several Halo wearing bladeguard get frozen by what is presumably a weaker sorcerer than a Lord of Change... Best guess is defunct Iron Halos because none of them activated at all. The Chaplaincy would have zero authority over the Chapter's Armory to issue such defunct equipment, but you know who does? We have to remember all space marines grow and whilst Leandros is not the newbie he was, hes clearly been proven as a competent chaplain and we all know heresy grows from idleness. Leandros only suggested him to Calgar for the mission and Titus is not going to deny his chapter master either way he lives to serve, hes also been proven to be highly competent against chaos. Were going to see Titus put through more trails that seem unfair but ultimately it builds his character to be this unbreakable beacon of the emperor because he knows no fear, who knows what a soul like that is capable of when fully trusted and unburdened by doubt.

one of the really interesting lore points that has been discussed recently is the idea that Fear is what leads to corruption by the ruinous powers. each chaos god uses the fear a mortal has to corrupt them; fear of failure, fear of pain, fear of incompetency or fear of isolation to name a few. like only 1 Grey Knight has ever been corrupted by Chaos, and it was when they where in Slaanesh's palace looking at the prince of pleasure's face. i dont think any mortal would of been able to stand up to a Chaos god without shitting their pants.

Somewhat like a morgul blade from lord of the rings, he's been stabbed and I agree that it's a good theory that he may now turn out to be possessed.

DLC where you play as leandros looking for a missing titus, assuming he fell to chaos despite objections from your squad mates. Eventually finding him doing something heroic and your squad mates laughing at you

“Hey Titus I got a sick mission for you” Sends Titus on a suicide mission - Manus Calger or something
@zedatkinszed12165 сағат бұрын
Leandros is one of a few things: 1) a bit of a 1980s style plot device, who send Titus on missions and no matter what always remains suspicious of him. Or, 2) He's a heretic. Look a) it's his fault Captain Trajan died. It's his fault Titus got involved with 2 chaos possessed inquisitors. Yes both inquisitors in Space Marine were possessed - the guy accusing Titus of chaos corruption was later killed by the Grey Knights. Or, 3) A mix of 1 & 2 - he's an unwitting pawn of the cabal (or some similar organization) putting Titus where he needs to be to fight Chaos.

Leandros sent him on that mission to either have him fall to chaos or die. In the first game Leandros was taken in by Titus after his team was killed off by chaos. They made a choice that wasn’t in codex and were wiped. Leadros retreated into doctrin for safety instead of learning a lesson. Fast forward a half century and Leandro’s is now a chaplain (of course). At this point he HAS to tear down Titus in any way possible. Has to find a flaw because his entire belief system and safety net depends on it.

The action of the secret level definitely takes place after the events of Space Marine 2, this can be seen in the fact that Titus has a new helmet with wings that he received at the end of Space Marine 2.

Titus knew he was going to die but sure as hell didn't act like it lol. He was sprinting through cars and jumping on tanks. Dude was having a blast.

Or Leandros knows Titus is chaos resistant and the best chance of mission success in the secret level was to send someone resistant to chaos. Possibly also believes Titus is tainted and this is why he's resistant. So sending Titus on the secret level mission functions as a test with all possibly outcomes being good (well Titus going to chaos is bad but it would confirm Leandros suspicions so he could say "I told you so"). This is kind of the impression I get from Leandros towards Titus in SM2, suspicion of Titus being a ticking chaos bomb but also understanding Titus is an effective asset.

I looked at the “projected mortality absolute” as a way to show new fans or people who have no idea what Warhammer 40k is just how strong and resilient space marines are supposed to be.
@MechaMan34514 күн бұрын
I wonder if the argument that Leandros gave to Calgar to have Titus go on this mission is that the whole Space Marine II story is basically a mission with “Absolute” mortality as well, and he persevered. It could also be that there is this expectation that Titus can accomplish the impossible, which is why he is sent to the impossible missions.

Controversial theory... Titus is a lost Primarch reborn (2nd or 11th). After re-watching SM1 cutscenes, SM2 cutscenes, and the secret level I am convinced. His aversion to chaos, his absolute fearlessness, and his ability to withstand even the most extremes of damage. Nemeroth calls him brother in SM1, as he can feel the warp in him. Metaurus' vision of Titus stabbing him hints at how quickly Titus grew up. GW is definitely setting him up for something big.

How ironic would it be if Leandros fell to chaos? 😂

I don't think he's being sent to die. I think Leandros understands that he's killed two chaos sorcerors and likely the most effective tool for guaranteed success.

I played SM 1 again just before the release of SM2 and when I saw who the at Leandros was back I literally told him to F off. My wife looked at me and asked if I was ok. Had to inform her on what happened and she said the same thing and added some more colorful words that I'll refrain from saying here.
@NobIeSixx3 күн бұрын
I had a theory that maybe he is being tested intentionally because they believe he is living proof of the Emperor's direct protection. Which is why Calgar disapproves, but allows and travels with Titus to go on his next mission which was secret level with an absolute mortality risk.

So if I remember correctly, the original creators of Space Marine had a long story plan that did have Titus being somewhat corrupted. This was discussed a few years after the release of the first game but WAY before the announcement of SM2. I dont remember the details (if it was the game director of the original story writer) but there was a whole arc that had him leave the Ultramarines all together. I don't remember if he would fall and be redeemed but that was supposed to be the original plan.
@redsalamander99994 күн бұрын
One idea I've just had is that, if it is indeed Leandros who wants Titus dead (and let's be honest, it probably is), he might not even be doing this out of suspicion of corruption at this point. Remember, Titus returning with full honours and getting covered in glory and exonerated of all wrongdoing doesn't exactly paint Leandros in a good light, so maybe him being sent on a suicide mission could just be an act of petty revenge. And if he can pin Titus's death on being corrupted, so much the better, it would make his own suspicions seem retroactively justified. That being said, we still haven't seen that much of Leandros in the present and we don't really know how he might have changed between the events of both games. There's quite a few ways they could go with him and Titus, and I've no doubt they're going to explore the dynamics between the two in future installments.

The emperor has a plan for Titus, as he’s the one who told him to “rise…” after his fight with Imurah, I think the Chaplain (Leandros) and Calgar recommended him for this mission because they knew of his inherent resistance to chaos

Even being sent on a mission that was supposed to be a one way trip the storm guard veterans showed fear when they faced the demon(death) but Titus showed none. This man is either guided by the emperor himself or is something else entirely. I know it’s very unlikely but I’m hoping Titus is some sort of primarch

The greatest part of secret level was the end when titus was standing there to fight the hordes of chaos. There was almost this air of this is my path this my element. In those final moments it was as if on some level the sargeant knew, this was the way and nothing else matters. So whoever wants titus dead better be ready for war because one way or another they will fall from their path! Great animation and great story.

Leandros wants Titus dead but you can easily see he’ll fall to chaos because of his jealousy/suspicion. Leandro’s can’t get around the fact that Titus is becoming a hero of the imperium to Calgar and probably Guilliman’s approval. Proud dad moment

Perhaps knowing that Titus can withstand the powers of the warp, Leandros chose Titus specifically for this mission for that ability knowing they need to destroy a Chaos sorceror. Titus dying might just be a little bonus for him, but ultimately he's using him as he knows Titus is the only marine for the job.
