I once wrote to the makers of the Biography series on A&E suggesting a series devoted to character actors. They ignored my request (As most folks do). Thank you Mr Skinner for making my dream come true. I have long thought that the people who played such marvelous supporting roles as you listed never got the recognition they so richly deserved. I enjoyed your presentation thoroughly.

Thank you so much for starting what I hope to be a long series. I was always fascinated by all those familiar faces you see all the times in old movies and old tv shows but never get true credit for all those small parts where they gave personnality and heart to characters we always remember, even if we don't always remember their names. As a huge fan of westerns, this first video was a treat!

My father was a Cowboy turned professional Thoroughbred Jockey in 1949. He met Mr. Pickens in the 1950s or 60s and they became friends. I was about 4 or 5 years old and we lived in Woodland Hills, Ca. when one night my dad, Slim and other cowboys and or racetrackers were at the house and were "Feeling their Oats" when apparently Slim lost a bet and went out to our back yard and consumed a snail!!! Get a bunch of drunk cowboys and race trackers together and anything can happen and it usually did. Thought y'all might like that little 'Tid bit' from my childhood memories of Slim Pickens. Also my Dad made a picture with Slim, John Wayne, Chuck Robberson( Mr. Wayne's Stunt Double) in the 1971 movie "The Cowboys". My dad was a stunt double for a couple of the smaller boys. He got to work with Mr. Pickens. My Dad thought the World of Slim & Maggie. Thanks again for this most Beautiful Biography of a really wonderful and kind man.

There's a recent photo of him with the cast of The Virginian on James Drury II, Facebook page, that may have been taken in November 2018. Plus there is an address to send any or all of the Virginian cast, Christmas Cards! If your a fan of Mr. James Drury, he's going to be at a Cowboy convention May 2-5, 2019, in Ardmore, OK Mr. Jones is still alive & well & Mr. Drury will be 85 next year! It so great they are still with us! But I do miss the ones who are gone! I would still love to meet Mr. Jones & Mr. Drury!!! If they would just come a little farther east!!!!! I remember Strother Martin from an episode of "Gilligan's Island" It was called "Take a Dare" and he played a contestant in a radio contest where he had to spend a week alone on an island, but the island they left him on was the island the castaways were stranded on. Of course he refused to help them because he wanted to win the contest and if anybody found out he wasn't really alone, he wouldn't win. I liked the twist at the end of the episode. Wow! All these guys were favorites; of course... I’m 64 and it makes ya wonder. Well; we all can’t be bit characters or screen actors of any sort but we could all take lessons from these actors about acting like you got good sense. Thanks for all your talents too in bringing us these reminders of our past. When I watch the movies with them in it; they become now; instead of memories. Thanks again; Slim, Dub, L.Q., Struther and Jerry.

Haven't seen one of your vids in a while. I grew up in the 60's and watched a lot of westerns, but apparently not all of them. This is the most informative vid I've seen of yours. Great info, thx for what you do.

Outstanding documentary. Somehow I frequently manage to get Strother Martin and Dub Taylor mixed up with each other.

Strother Martin always played a character who is trying to pull a fast one on somebody, and it always catches up to him. LOL

My gratitude to you, Jerry Skinner- I’ve yet to find a video of yours that I don’t watch repeatedly- such in depth work, such excellent insight- so much to learn about our own popular culture and history.

When a Jerry Skinner video shows up EVERYTHING else can wait. It's crazy how 'lost' I get in his stories...there is soooo much information and about people that are loved but not forgotten. I don't know how he does it but I'm darn sure glad that he does!!!

Thank You Jerry, for these Classics of Real Americana when America was still America. God, how I mourn for those days ... and I'm only 56. My Idol was, and Always will be Charlie Chaplin. I was born in the Wrong century......
