I drew a lot as a kid but stopped when I was 11 and didn't start drawing again until I was 19 but made art on and off until I was 23 and quit again because I felt like I would never be good at it but recently after turning 25 I decided I should stick with it and become an artist because I love art and I want to be an artist. I'm glad I found your channel I feel so inspired and motivated.

I just love fantasy warrior and adventurer drawings. like the magic the gathering cards and stuff like that. So i just looked up cool characters on pinterest and try my best to copy it. And if i can't draw something fairly well i try to look up a tutorial for it. i guess it kinda works. I just bought color pencils the other week and have been trying to learn how to color and shade etc. It became so much more fun when i added color to it all instead of just sketching. I hope i am not wasting my time by doing this :P

I just wanted to drop a comment and say thank you for this and all of your content. As someone with autism I learn things in very peculiar ways and if it isn't phrased or explained in certain ways my mind will steadfastly refuse to learn a concept. As you were explaining perspective and horizon lines and the curvatures of objects in relation to the horizon line it finally was put into the context I needed to suddenly click. I've always heard the importance and been shown examples but no one has ever said it so straight, blunt, and to the point that it clicked before.

I started drawing back in 2019, and have seen only little growth since I started. Allot of my passion and excitement faded and it depressed me, because I really liked art but I wasnt progressing and I couldnt produce things that I envision. As I watch more of these videos, I get some of that excitement back because I see a way forward. This time with some directions. I still cant help but feel anxious, because I am still only in my twenties, and life feels like its running ahead of me while I try to figure out what kind of like I want to lead for myself.

Another thing that wasn't mentioned is to emphasize what you want to be that sentence, if you want it to be "the lady with a oversized morningstar" than make the morningstar very visible, possibly in a pose that emphasizes how big it is, show that she is "lady-like" somehow, maybe a slim silluete, a feminine face, long hair, etc. Basically composition added on top of the shape language and color theory.
@MajorTomFisher3 жыл бұрын
I may not be as skilled as Marc but I think I know exactly how to show people that a character is a woman
@l0kk0163 жыл бұрын
@@MajorTomFisher Yeah, but there are multiple ways to expres or hide something, if you want to make a character with armor you can easily end up covering something important without noticing. It also depends a lot on how you want to frame the wording, it was said "a lady", so a huge girl or a tomboy wouldn't fit, tho talking about wording i also wasn't very good in my comment so i get you.

Funny how the video tells me basically all the stuff I never realized I knew lol Been an artist for *years* and wanted to get back into an art kick (ADHD doesn't always allow me to indulge in my passions at will lol) so I found this video recommended to me and was surprised at how much I already have under my belt! Was well presented, good video and a great refresher on the things I should be actively working towards doing! (Y'know, rather than being on auto-pilot and hoping my hands do what they do correctly lol) I will say, though, that one shouldn't scoff at the power of directly tracing an image for practice. Sometimes, to get the finesse right, someone more experienced has to hold your hand the first time. It's how I learned to draw "on-model" for quite a good handful of characters from popular media. But the important part of it is also doing the practice away from the original art. And the beauty of tracing an image is that eventually your hands learn the motions of drawing lines over time. Once you trace an image, and you feel your hands may have the correct muscle memory to replicate that style of line you aim for, draw it independently and see how well that practice worked for you. I no longer "need" to trace things directly, but I have that private practice technique to thank for my steady hand and line confidence. But it's very important to know that that isn't your own original art at that point so of course don't claim it as such, just as mentioned at about 10:25 lmao
