@@chaosl9860 no, it is about this “ phase” that he talks about in this video. First time practicing for example the fundamentals will be slow and harsh and you might not see a lot of progress, but if you keep doing this, it will come easier and you will see differences in no time. If this doesn’t make sense to you, think about it as a sport. Funfact, people don’t see a lot of result the first 6 months of going to the gym. After such a period, something kicks in and they are seeing changes rapidly. Just don’t give up, and watch some more marc brunet on “how to study the right way”

I've been drawing since 2016, at that time I continued to draw, I drew things around, anime characters and so on. one time I started to feel bored drawing and rarely drew, in the end my drawing didn't make any progress. my advice to beginners out there to be diligent in drawing even when you are bored, it's okay if you want to take a break, but don't let you stop because when you stop drawing, you might forget how to draw
@alexisocasio67392 жыл бұрын
I would also suggest you figure out what can inspire you and encourage you to draw more. I get inspired from artists on Instagram or Pinterest (go Pinterest if IG gets too toxic) and I’ve found that gesture drawing really gets me more in the mood to draw, even though I feel like I’m not great with gestures. But these have helped me draw more in the past few months than I ever did in the last ten years, and I’ve improved SO MUCH just from sticking to it.

Then I don't know if I should even start learning how to draw. It seems like my routine with any hobby, whether it's programming, specific video games or sculpting with plasticine, is *"do it for a day or two, a few weeks at most, then get bored/annoyed/lose inspiration and quit for an unspecified ammount of time."* It's not worth learning how to draw if I'm just gonna quit early and forget everything in a month or so. :( (wow, that's like the peak of my pessimism. I haven't even watched the video and I already feel it won't change anything)
@alexisocasio67392 жыл бұрын
@@robertlupa8273 Gotta adjust your mindset before anything else. If you convince yourself of something, whatever the truth is, your mindset and actions will follow that thought process. Try to avoid beating yourself up so much (trust me, experience). Rethink your approach to your hobbies and take baby steps towards whatever you want. That applies to learning to draw or any of your other hobbies. But if you really think something isn’t worth it to you, don’t let that big you down either. Personally, I tend to beat myself up in thinking “oh man, I was supposed to do this and I didn’t,” when I really just set my goals to too high of a level to start with. Monitor yourself and figure out whatever you want. You can adjust whatever you need to from there to work towards what you want. Just be kind to yourself in the process, no matter what you do.

I began art training as a commercial artist in trade school, approx 1978, I was a draw stuff kid for years before. My training began with tools that were obsolete by the late 80s. A few years later I went to community college as a fine art education major. I didn't complete it to a degree bc I felt like I was rehashing what I had learned already in trade school. I'm 61 now and it was very interesting to me to see how art (beginner) is taught now using the current tools. I thought you did a great job of getting a lot of important information across in a short amount of time. Well done!... I hope you inspire and teach someone who loves being and artist and never stops.! Best wishes. And ty for keeping art alive!

Hi marc, will you continue series with portfolio reviews? that would be amazing!

Just started watching this series, been wanting to learn to draw for a while but it always feels overwhelming to get started. I saw a clip of yours where you talk about drawing things using basic shapes as an outline and something just clicked! It feels way more doable and accessible now! I know you won't see this bc this video is 2 years old, but I'll leave this comment and thank you for the algorithm lol

You've been my number one teacher here in the internets, I'm documenting my own progress into a semi-tutorial series but im an amateur, this makes me feel like im on the right path and maybe shouldv'e thrown more into my own videos as i summarized the first steps in learning/ succeeding in art as self-discipline number one and construction, anatomy(gesture) and perspective as the first things to hone down. Keep up the inspiring work!

This was actually super helpful, I got down on myself recently for perpetually needing references. As you explained why you should use references and how to use them in the best way I realised I am doing that. I even realised that with one thing (mushrooms) I truly understand how they work in and out because of references and that is the reason why I don't need the references anymore when drawing them.

Well, got me to sub. Stopped drawing at the age of 16, 24 now and wondering how far my skills would've been had I not stopped. Getting back into it and teaching myself once again from the grond up. This gave me quite the motivation and set my self a direction.

Oh my gosh. I've been really busy these past days and I really miss the time for Art, so I'm going to be making more time for it. I will start with gesture and make my way through them in order. Thank you for making this video.

Hey Marc I wanted to ask. Would you ever do a video on what to include in a portfolio? I’m going for character concept and I don’t know if I should build a portfolio based on specific companies that I want to work at? Or have a general portfolio filled with overall creative conceptual ideas. Hope you get a chance to read this, thank you for the great content
@cooked99572 жыл бұрын
He’s done videos on that concept his old series “portfolio review” gives you an idea on what to include in a portfolio

Literally me! But then I realized that it's not much about being old, and more that the parts that I was comfortable with in my life are over, getting close to finishing school and going to college or getting a job, having to pick a career and all. Feeling all the pressure around you to have your life set already kinda makes you feel like your life is over, at least for me

A lot of things in this video are not only suited for art, but for any skill that you are trying to learn. In my case is art, english and programming. Great video Marc!

Definitely for sure I’ve entered my third year and for my first well 2 years I’d say I failed so much sketchbook after sketchbook full of failed attempts. Being an artist especially a new one is this constant high and low of ups and downs it wasn’t actually until the end of last year that I was finally starting to see legitimate progress more consistent pieces more finished ones then I brought my work into the digital space learned software. Now I’ve started gaining traction with my work. I’ll never forget realizing how much I improved when I sat down and looked back at my first sketchbook from 2019. Improvement was insane there will be moments of doubt hair pulling anger frustration even thoughts quitting but if you can manage to just PUSH THROUGH THAT. The outcome will be so much better and Marc I want you to know that your videos helped me out a tone and are still ones I come back to thanks 🙏🏽

Altho i am not that much into drawing i got some inspiration by watching this video, im still young and i feel like it would be a good moment to start, i started looking at my room and my whole house for some references and by just thinking on trying to draw already feels magical, i already have a clear idea of how i am going to start, This video really helped me on some doubts i had.

I think that the saying the tools don't make the artist is completely true, however this video is a fantastic example fo a tool that certainly gives the artist a good shove in the right direction. This is the exact thing I've been looking for! I've been going to a school with a heavy focus on art for years without having made a whole lot of progress, and this was the final tidbit to making me realize that I wasn't practicing the right things and needed to truly want to make art, rather than just doing it to get better.

I’ve been drawing since 3rd grade, but stopped around 5th grade simply because I got bored, I couldn't find something that made me want to continue drawing, two years later I got back into art wanting to make a comic, but I have no skills (less skill) although I am better than I was last, I feel like I could always get better. But it is so hard to study, I can’t focus on the subject I am learning, and I get frustrated when something doesn't look as good as the video reference I am using. It’s hard, especially with my family which gives me anxiety, trauma, etc. I can't concentrate with them around. I don’t believe I have much time from my childhood (five years). I’ve wasted so much time, I’m trying to get better in the style I want (semi-realistic) these videos really help even when sometimes I can’t concentrate.
