holy moly... this is so freaking cool. I'm just daydreaming imagining being able to do all of this on an ipad one day or just one click export to UE5 and run around in engine/in game... This whole ZB+CC toolset is just nuts, especially for indies, wow.

Amazing! Its been many years now and I never get tired of seeing you work/teach. I recently got into CC4 and IClone for a job and its been a huge help. So I'm glad you also have tutorial for them too. Only Down side to iclone is their renderer? Do you know if they have any plans on Improving that?

Great Tutorial, thank you Michael !! Can I ask you if it is possible to use Face Tools and Pose Tools at the same time in the character workflow? In other words: Is Face Tools only for Heads? I am trying to integrate the Head in the full character but I loose all the Normal Maps, do you know what I mean?

HI, is there an easy way to cut out a small section of the eyebrows in CC4 to accomodate a scar on the eyebrow? I am trying to figure out how to do this. Any advice, please? many thanks!

Is there a way to edit/create intermediary blendshapes? For instance, a character with large eyes whose lids clip through the eyes at 50% blink. Is there was a way of adjusting a blendshape/expression at a midpoint with a zbrush + CC4 workflow?

Hi, I hope some one can take this... When I send the base to Zbrush the Max size of the brush its preety small... Is there somethng I am missing? Can I use "Unify" or will that break the scale later on CC ? o.O
Great video, just bought the face tools and already used headshot 2. They are great. One prob I have is using the Reallusion template for substance, it’s hard to find and never seems to be latest version. Do you have a link to their site where you found the one you use? Also, the instructions on how to use it and where to put it into later versions of substance (now painter of course) seems to be incorrect. Thanks Mike

Incredible tutorial and walk through! Clear, and thorough. You posted the DNEG video to incorporate morph targets into the workflow, and I was wondering if you've used that yourself? It's amazing, but I can't seem to get the layers to merge down on each other after making the changes I want. I'm not sure if it's something I'm doing wrong or if It's a problem with incorporating both workflows together. If you could help me with that, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks so much for the videos!

After some trial and error, I found that these workflows mesh really well together! My mistake was not having my morph target layer on the highest subdivision when trying to merge the layers, causing both mesh errors as well as locking layers from merging. For anyone else interested in trying the morph target workflow, just follow exactly what the DNEG video shows. It really adds a subtle but amazing effect. Here's what I did and what worked for me: 1. In the FaceTools menu, switch the the expression you want to edit 2. Create new layer (I name it exactly as the layer I'm editing, but I add '_MT' to the end) then place it to be right underneath the layer you're trying to edit 3. On the '_MT' layer, make sure it's recording on the highest subdivision (FaceTools does this by default when editing expressions, could be room for experimenting and optimizing though) 4. Store MorphTarget on the recording '_MT' layer and make the changes you want 5. make sure you're on the highest subdiv level, then project your morph target in the Morph Target menu 6. go back to the expression layer and merge down Now you should have the Morph target data on your FaceTools expression layer. The only issue I could see with this workflow is how heavy it can be, and more complex meshes could bog down or crash Zbrush potentially. My polycount for the face was only at about 4.3 million polys, so if you're going higher than that you might need a beefier PC. Thanks again, Michael, seriously amazing content.

Just to be clear, I don't work for Maxon, I haven't touched any of the new features, and I'm not privy to their release info, I'm just some internet KZbin guy. So it's...difficult for me to give you a timeline on when I'll be releasing my 2024 ZBrush videos 😅

Haven't had time to check out the whole video yet, but I had one make or break-it question : Can you use your own custom topology?

No and never. Cos it needs to use each vert with an assigned number to work. I wish they had better topology for their characters too, but to do all this by hand with your own topology would take months so, gotta weigh up the time spent vs the result. CC4 isnt the best, especially their body topology and the way it animates, but it's easier and faster than doing it by hand.
