Wowee!!!! absolutely love this channel, absolutely love the information shared in the videos and absolutely love the tone of your voice. One question I have and it's a problem I am faced with often, it is when you take a character and do numerous variations of design I find it very very difficult knowing which one to go with, sometimes I love two equally and when picking one really wish I had opted for the other. I suppose in a studio setting the choice would be made by committee but how when working at home do you make the best choice? Just go with your gut?

Yes...after a while you will see which one works better. You can also ask others. Non artistic people can be great to ask, they often see things quickly and are good for quick reviews. Over time after finding others artists that you follow and use for inspiration, you become beter and better. It is all drawing mileage.
