Hot tip: draw the extremes and breakdowns and leave blank frames between them to get a sense of movement. Don’t do the inbetweening. Clean the extremes and breakdowns then do the inbetweening with clean lines. It saves so much time and stops animation from being choppy if you’re not very good at cleaning.

Excuse me, with "cleaning" the extremes and breakdowns, do you mean making a lineart that looks smooth and in a single line rather than a sketch? And if it's the case, how can you draw the inbetweening with the clean lines from the start? I think I would do messy lines first like a sketch

@@peph9750 Idk what kind of school the ogc went to, but using copy and paste in animation was taught to me on year one. There’s a quote my teacher uses “It’s a tool just as anything else in animation is.” And “It depends on the animator if they can make it work, not on the tool”. With your point you should never depend on ANY tool in animation not just copy and paste. I could say “Keyframes are a bad habit” because so much animation depends on it, but I don’t, because saying something in animation is a “bad habit” when it’s working, and looks good is the stupidest thing I’ve heard for a while. And if someone can’t animate without a specific technique or a tool: Never blame a technique, but always blame the user.

Lip syncing and acting is hard. I strongly recommend starting out with little 2-3 second gifs. Just get used to doing drawing 2 key poses and some inbetweens. 20 seconds sounds short, but it’s a lot of work.
@astraregulus26723 жыл бұрын
@@sloppynyuszi I know, and I'm starting to realize that as I go along. And actually, I did make some small animations before, but I didn't mention those because I never finished most of them. The only one I did finish was a bouncing ball. The 20s thing is just something I push myself to do because I want to challenge myself when it comes to longer things, and learn the kind of pitfalls I fall into when animating a longer sequence. For example, while the first few seconds of rough key frames were pretty consistent, I noticed that I tend to make the character's head smaller as I go on, so I know to look out for that in the future! It's more of a learning experience I strive for, as of now.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 *🎨 Understanding the basics of animation principles:* - Animation requires a unique skill set distinct from illustration. - Simplifying animation principles to manageable concepts aids in learning. - Four fundamental principles: easing, overshooting, squash and stretch, anticipation. 01:31 *📐 Explaining the principle of easing:* - Easing involves accelerating or decelerating movement to create a natural flow. - Dynamic spacing adjusts the distance between drawings to achieve easing effects. - Proper easing contributes to more lifelike and fluid animations. 02:53 *🔄 Demonstrating overshooting in animation:* - Overshooting adds vitality to character movements by exaggerating their actions. - Adding overshoot frames at the endpoints of motion enhances realism and dynamism. - Even subtle overshooting can significantly improve the visual appeal of animations. 03:49 *🎈 Implementing squash and stretch in animation:* - Squash and stretch principles emphasize the elasticity of characters and objects. - Applying squash and stretch techniques enhances the perception of movement and impact. - Even minor adjustments in shape can convey momentum and energy in animations. 04:17 *🔄 Exploring the concept of anticipation in animation:* - Anticipation involves preparing the audience for upcoming actions through subtle cues. - Incorporating anticipation adds clarity and interest to character actions. - Anticipation helps in conveying the purpose and direction of movements effectively. 05:28 *🏃♂️ Starting with fundamental animation exercises:* - Beginning with a ball bounce animation serves as a foundational exercise for animators. - Mastering simple movements like a ball bounce is crucial before tackling more complex animations. - Progressive exercises build skills and confidence for handling intricate character movements. 06:56 *🎨 Preparing character designs for animation:* - Character design considerations include emphasizing organic shapes for ease of animation. - Simplified, round shapes contribute to character appeal and facilitate animation. - Design choices influence the ease of animation and the character's visual appeal. 07:25 *🖊️ Starting the animation process with rough sketches:* - Initiate animation with rough stick figure sketches to establish basic movements and proportions. - Simplifying initial drawings aids in visualizing and refining complex character motions. - Rough sketches serve as a foundation for building detailed and expressive animations. 08:35 *🎨 Refining rough animations into clean drawings:* - Cleaning up animations involves meticulous checking and alignment of drawings for consistency. - Layered animation allows for better organization and control over character movements. - Finalizing animations includes coloration and fine-tuning details for a polished finish. 10:00 *🖌️ Applying tracing and referencing techniques in animation:* - Tracing model sheets aids in maintaining consistent character proportions and volume. - Utilizing tracing and shifting techniques streamlines the animation process and ensures accuracy. - Referencing movement patterns enhances animation quality and realism. 11:12 *🔄 Achieving smooth motion through incremental adjustments:* - Onion skinning and flipping techniques assist in visualizing and refining motion sequences. - Incorporating motion arcs and secondary movements improves the fluidity and coherence of animations. - Adding smears strategically enhances the perception of speed and dynamic motion. 12:38 *🖥️ Finalizing animations and addressing common challenges:* - Cleanup involves meticulous detailing and alignment of drawings for a professional finish. - Managing complexity and volume consistency ensures cohesive and engaging animations. - Addressing coloration and frame-by-frame adjustments enhances the overall quality of animations. As someone who once was absolutely clueless and lost while doing animation, these tips are seriously helpful as a newbie (who may never even touched animation ever, I'd say) :' ) When I started getting back into animation in 2017, I was basically lost and kept questioning "how does one even animateeeee?!?!", but once I looked into some animation techniques as well as found out about the 12 principles of animation, it helped me sooo much into getting started with animation and helped me get a better understanding of how it all works/is put together, just a matter of practice from now and developing/learning more techniques (one key change for me was shifting away from pose-to-pose to straight ahead for each body part), and now I'm even amazed I can call myself a decent animator, got people and friends to say my animations look like Kekeflipnote's stuff, and getting 1st place for an advertisement contest (where I decided to animate the full thing for fun lol), and I don't animate regularly either (don't do that though, gotta keep going :o) so that's quite an achievement :' ) oh PS: smear frames are the best things ever to make

I was already practicing smear frames on my newest animation that i'm still making. I can't wait for y'all to see it! 58 frames on the animation so far, using 6fps lets my eyes develop to what I'm seeing. I might practice better fps soon, and yeah. I was also trying to do anticipation for my smear frames too. My smear frames usually have a little anticipation and mostly just squash and stretch animation, sometimes I use actual smear frames.

Thank you for destroying my illusion xD I thought: yep, Ill install krita and whip up a small animation in a week or two.... well, i dont think that anymore and i think that is good, now i know that itll take me an eternity to finish the project im imagining, but that it is worth the time :D

Nice. The first animation exercise all animators go through and teaches squash and stretch! 😃👍

Thank you for making this because you actually broke down the stuff that you need to animate in a way that was quick but also very informative way that makes it easier to understand unlike other people

Great video! Only criticism is that the ball you animated with the squash and stretch becomes larger and smaller, which happens when you forget to squash it and only focus on the stretch. Otherwise incredibly helpful! This will surely help many beginner animators in the future.

I;ve been working on an animation with my friends and they elected me to draw, and oh my gosh my animations sucked, then I watched this, I’ve gotten much better in a span of 4 days already- I can’t wait for a year!

Do not attempt any form of animation until you do a ball bounce. Oh gosh I think I messed up oops well I'm just going to compare with my living island meme I didn't do anything but when I posted my tests I did the sketch and a ball bounce so progress!

Foolishly, I did a walk cycle and a little character animation before I did a bouncing ball or pendulum animation.
