With the whole "i don't like making overpowered OC's" thing, i get it, i never touch animus dragons, but hybrids and flamescales? i feel like, as with all character design, there needs to be balance. Of course a sand/rainwing with all powers from both sides will be over the top, but that's not the only way to do it. With that example of a sand/rainwing, what i did was take away the venom and camo scales, and instead look at the core aspects. What makes a rainwing a rainwing, and what makes a sandwing a sandwing. what i came up with was a dragon with some camo scales, but not enough to make him completely disguised, so the just make his hybridity more obvious, no venom, weak fire (to a point where most 2 year old dragonets have stronger) but a tensile tail and tail barb. These traits (i hope) combine together to make someone about equal in power to a regular dragon, but with a unique product i can play around with in combat and writing. Another important aspect is environment. A "normally" powered OC which warps the world around them with their sheer charisma and ability to make the readers gag with every one liner will never be as good as a well written hybrid. To me this is where flamescales really shine, you can inspire such a unique cross between fear and pity, and i think peril didn't really tap into that properly. Sure in book 1 you feel fear and book 8 you feel pity, but never both. Flamescales, to me at least, isn't a power. It's a disability. But they are still virtually indestructible, so what i did was make it ice scales instead. An ice sky hybrid, we've all heard the tale before. But the reaction of those around him, the combined fear and pity, combine *that* with an inability to touch anyone (a feeling we all know too well with covid) and you get fascinating emotional complexity in your story. This is exactly what you did here, show how Fire can be hurt and has been abused his entire life for something he can't control, and shouldn't even matter. While you could draw the obvious racial allegory here, i find it is much better to do the neurodivergence one. Autism and ADHD are the two main things in this category, and out of those two autism fits here a lot better. While i won't claim to have been abused for my particular case, High functioning Autistics do often find the system is designed against them, and that just because their brains are programmed differently they can never seem to make any headway in society. This is a perfect allegory to flamescales for many reasons, but this is already long enough, and you're a writer, i'm sure you can draw them yourself. I find the racial allegory is best used for hybrids in general, but that is kinda the core basis of my OC story and i really should wrap this up so i won't go too much into detail there (there's nothing public yet as i'm still in the core process, but i have enough to talk about it) but persecution and hate simply for the way you look and are is a fascinating subject to write.

My OC is a mud ice hybrid, has fairly weak Frostbreath and a resistance to fire only when she is confident enough. About as strong as a normal dragonet, goes to jade mountain academy in the quartz winglets counting as the mudwing. She was born in the ice kingdom but now lives with a sibling group she is closely related to in the mud kingdom.

@@timharsch1996 my OC is pure RainWing, and he was painfully experimented on and given heightened speed, strength, agility, durability, and senses (he has some other powers too, energy projection and accelerated healing). While the experiments gave him those powers, he did loose his venom and scale-changing ability (he cant change them at will, but they do change if he feels very strong emotions). He was taught how to fight by an old LeafWing who died, so he ran away and hid for a few years, constantly bashing himself for not saving his mentor and growing depressed, and eventually he found that he had two sisters and that's all I know rn I know he's seriously OP but that's why I need help lol

PTSD is a good start (most of my characters have it to some extent TBH), maybe a less than dragon mindset, believing the experiments made them less of a person, perhaps leading to depression and the things surrounding that (just a warning if you do go for this it requires detailed knowledge of how these diseases work). If that's not your style maybe add in some violent outbursts from repressed emotions from all the trauma leading to them isolating themselves, believing that they are dangerous, and have other people treat them as less of a person. With that second option you could have it as either they constantly try to hide their abilities or have them be visually obvious and thus make it impossible to hide. I mean if you want to be really creative you could do both and have them make a cover story for why they have the defects that doesn't reveal the abilities. It all depends on what you decide to write, but balancing physical strength with mental illness makes for some great characterisation if done correctly. TL;DR just give them trauma

He tends to spend most of his time alone and training and/or fighting because that's really the only thing that he can take comfort and pleasure in. He sort of revels in the pain of taking a hit because he feels he doesnt truly deserve happiness, sp he fights beings stronger than him so he can get hit hard. I'm currently writing his story, but it's for him as a human, I'll probably convert it to a dragon version... sooner or later lol

Oh gosh I love all three of them! (Avocado, Duchess, 2,269) FIYAH seems tough and cold on the outside, but is really quite kind and nervous. Duchess is high and mighty. I'd expect her to think she's better than others purely because of her looks. Truffle is just generally happy and fun! She's always excited to try new things!

I like drawing my dragons. I dont particularly like making backstories unless I really like the design. I like messing with shapes and combining my favorite dragon characteristics (big fan of hybrids) and then playing with colors and making their expressions match how I'm feeling at the time. I have a big binder filled with my class time doodles

I really like these characters! But i feel like none of their desings fit the way i draw dragons well, so i won't enter the raffle. Because, like you said, i wouldn't draw them often, so i'm not the right person to have them, i won't love them as much. I love truffle! I actully clicked on this video because- don't take this the wrong way- I thought Truffle was based on a piglet and I went ooh that's cute! Avocado (lol) 1201 for Truffle 4302 for Fiyah and 2525 for Dutchess. These Characters are so beautiful!!! My favourite is Dutchess, I love Silkwings (My main oc is a silkwing named Skipper) and without even looking at her personality her design is GORGEOUS!!! All the blues with that hint of orange, 😍. If I got her i'd probably make her Skipper's sister 😁. Also her personality is the best, I laughed so hard at "She'd offer to find someone else to do the dishes even though you were looking right at her" I absolutely LOVED watching you make these three, It's so cool seeing people describe their design process and I loved seeing what you made of the mood boards. Also, I'm glad you had a fun Christmas break and got to spend some time with your family. Happy new year!!

Avocado, Truffle, 777! Duchess was lovely- her colors fit well and her personality was easily seen in her design. Most people who have queenly attitudes are usually very self-obsessed, so it was a nice touch to give her a kind personality! Fiya is such a good boy! His design was AWESOME, and the leopard (or Jaguar, I can't tell the difference because I never paid attention to that) print fit him really well! Truffle has got to be my favorite. She's a chubby baby, and you've just got to love her design and personality! She's the little child of the group, and always one to cheer others up! I kinda have an idea where Truffle had chocolate named after her when a chocolate-making silkwing met her and befriended her.
