We actually created a video about the word "theory" in science and contrasted it to how it is used in general conversation. In casual conversation, the word "theory" is often used casually as an opinion, hunch, or guess. But in science, a theory is an explanation that is supported by scientific evidence, repeatedly tested and supported by facts.
