I bought a yz85 and the guy said he just put a chain on it. I test rode for 2 mins and it was fine through all the gears, it ripped. Then after he left I took offhand 1 min in the wrong chain he had installed broke and locked up in my front sprocket. I got the chain out. Now the bike starts first kick but when I let the clutch out in gear it dies. Do I need to split the cases or could it be something under the clutch engine cover. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I would probably check the drive sprocket area closely. If you jammed up the chain bad enough you could have broken the left side case. Is there oil leaking in that area that might indicate a crack? After that pull the clutch side cover and see if something in there might have broken. Its the weaker link in the driveline so its a good place to start. The transmissions in them things are pretty resilient and almost always the last thing to break. Good luck.
