Charging and discharging a capacitor

The video shows the variation with time of the voltage across a capacitor. The capacitor is connected in series with a resistor. First, the capacitor is charged by connecting the circuit to a DC power supply and then it is discharged through the resistor. The rate of charging or discharging is affected by the product RC which is also called the time constant. (R - resistance, C - capacitance).
The data logger system consists of a voltage probe that is connected to a computer through a data logging interface. This allows the continuous measurement of voltage over a period of time. The data collected was used to plot the graph of voltage vs. time.

Not sure why, but my capacitors were discharging despite no resistor was connected and the battery was disconnected too. Basically circuit open. Same circuit of yours. I thought that the capacitor was blown but I tried others and I had the same results. What gives?

If the circuit is open, I cannot think of an explanation for the discharge (I guess the air humidity cannot account for such a rapid discharge). When the a capacitor is discharged through a low resistance (for example a wire with almost 0 resistance) the time constant is very short and the discharge is almost instantaneous.

When discharging the capacitor the battery is not connected to the capacitor.
