Thank you,yes absolutely agree that it's kinder to the battery and it's general long term health

And probably gentle on your battery too. I fully endorse your video and the cable feeding the socket look good and clearly good quality.

I use the same idea with my two ev’s. I do have an inline type A power breaker (rated at 13A) for extra protection though.

The only thing I see of concern is the lights appear to be spurred from the socket without a 3 or 5 amp fused spur to protect that circuit, I charge mine off a 13a socket 👍

We have been using granny charger to charge x2 EV for over 5 years, never had a problem with overload etc

The 13 A plugs in the granny chargers have temperature sensors in them and will shut off the charging if they get too hot.

Some do, but I'm not sure they all have temperature sensors. The Chinese often cut costs.

My masterplug one doesn't. Or at least if it does it doesn't mind the plug and cable getting too hot to touch!

I'm considering a Kia EV3. I'm in Australia and have a 20 amp circuit in my garage (which was previously used for some heavy duty photo processing machines). We're 240 volt mains. Is a granny charger safe and practical on this circuit?
@Grumpydadwithtech7 күн бұрын
no it wont... unless you use extension reels wound up.

Yes your supply should be more than adequate for a granny charger.

You cant get 16A from a 13A socket...
@makemineapint3 ай бұрын
A 'Granny charger' only draws 10A max so 2.4Kw, perfectly OK if the circuit/socket is in good condition.
@daveforsey48993 ай бұрын
Yes I agree, what I failed to mention is that there is a 13 amp fused connection unit feeding the supply to the socket.
@alantucker301418 күн бұрын
Yes you can , especially if it's on a ring main, whether you should is a different matter !
@dopiaza20064 күн бұрын
A 13A fuse will pass 16A all day. With clean contacts and a well wired plug it's not a problem...

What the heck is a granny charger? Are grandparents electric these days?
@arthurdent29005 күн бұрын
The idea is that if you visit an old person (e.g. your granny) who doesn't have a home charger you can use the charger. I use my "granny" at home as my main charger. In >2 of ownership the only time I use a commercial charger is at the dealers (it is free 😀)
@Markcain2682 күн бұрын
@arthurdent2900 but the vast majority of people haven't got a home charger because they haven't got an ev, so that doesn't really make sense!
