I think it’s ok to pay lol with a dish, side, or dessert! My mom always taught me don’t show up to anyone’s house empty handed, even if it’s just a 6-pack or a cheap bottle of wine.

Anyone who has actually hosted Thanksgiving knows it’s about $500 on the low end. You have to be completely selfish to show up to someone home empty handed during the holidays. Not to mention, the prep starts weeks before…cooking begins 2-3 days prior.
$500 no mam me and my sis hosting and we already in $800 and that's mostly on meat

Yes,BUT some families are huge and often the older relatives cook all the food,and everyone comes, eats and leaves for the relative to clean up!! I think family members should help with the food and clean up!!! The other side is treat the older relatives to dinner and give them an envelope with cash as an appreciation for all the years they held family dinners. Some relatives, will get offended either way; but then Christmas is 25 days later and some families expect big Christmas dinners or other holidays. plus gifts. Families, need to be considered of relatives financial situations.. We started a new. tradition. each family contributes to the meal. and drinks and alcohol.
@qc4wings3 жыл бұрын
@Lillian Willliams Agreed. Yes everyone should help clean up!! I recall some family members showing up late, eating what was cooked/prepared and leaving early w/o bothering to help clean up.

My family is doing it this way this year. After the passing of my grandparents, I have taken on the holidays. My grandmother always cooked everything and never asked for money. I would just help her. Now, we purchased groceries as a family for me and my aunt will cook for all. We divided the bill among all family members that wanted to come. It came to about $30 per person including Togo boxes. My family all took the sleep in option and happily agreed to pay $30 to just show up and eat.

I see both sides. I wouldn’t host if I couldn’t afford so I’d never ask for money but if someone else needed help doing the meal of course I would

I have pre existing health condition (Lupus) My husband passed away three years ago, so I’m all alone. Both of my sons are non verbal so things are more difficult for me. I don’t know how we are going to make it through this winter. I’m still waiting on the state for assistance. I’m so embarrassed of my situation. BUT NO MATTER WHAT I have Faith that God will PROVIDE! or it could be something like a family pool known as the thanksgiving fund where everyone tosses in some money to help afford the food depending on what extras people want

In 2010, many members of my family were hurting after the housing crash. Nobody was willing to host. Mom (the matriarch) couldn't cover all the costs. She charged $17 per person and that was good because we got lots of food out of it, and were able to stay comfortable in her home instead of being rushed out the restaurant during our food coma. On most other years, we do potlucks because no one is willing to spend all that time stress and money to cook/shop/decorate to make 6 different dishes to feed 14 people.
@courtneycarroll97983 ай бұрын
This year, although Mt mother cooked it, we all contributed to dinner. For example, I was to provide my mother with carrots, peas, and stuffing. Everyone pitched in so it wasn't one person with the whole cost. It worked out well.
@endiarapier56633 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t do $30 a plate. But, there may be a few for those who were not invited, invited and bring extra people without the host knowledge, and/ or like sneaking extra plates homes. It’s the respect for me.

Anyone who charges for a plate for Thanksgiving has zero couth. There isn't anything wrong with giving folks the option to bring something or contribute if they can( Invited guests..:Conditions, Restrictions, and Exclusions Apply..Family is excluded and we know why). Family should contribute some money or some essential ingredients for their favorite dishes( Exclusion- Seasonings don't count as ingredients) toward the dinner, it shouldn't be optional, but we would never refuse someone dinner. Food is expensive, the thoughtful thing to do is contribute something if you can afford to do so.

Thanksgiving Cover Charge ----------------------- If you think you gon charge me like I'm at a restaurant then ain't no point in me coming... there are people that buy stuff for their own meals that they cook at home and it may not have taken as much time as yours... it's still the point... now if I bring an unexpected guest I can pay for the, cuz you don't know them like that but me as a family member oh hell no im not doing it DON’T Pass the Cranberry Sauce ----------------------- I personally think the cranberry sauce is overrated my family members LOVE to put it on their dressing ( cornbread dressing - that is for the people don't know ) and tbh there's no need for it atleast for me my dressing cooked well enough and has enough seasoning and flavoring that it does not need a jell-o like substance on top of it ruining it lol

The look on Adrienne’s face like I’m not that bad, lol 😁😁😁 😂😂😂😂 that’s because remember they used to make fun of her for not cooking and even Adrienne made fun of her self too 😂 she was like I’m the queen of ordering out! She showed during a house tour, her draw full of take out menus lmao 😂😂😂. But she knew that getting married one day, she was going to have to learn how to cook so she made sure to learn. Most won’t! And it’s not even about cooking for a man or your spouse it’s so that you can eat healthy and if you plan to have a family one day, you have to feed them nutritious meals and not take out or microwaveable meals. Because I know way too many women who refuse to cook for their children. They order out all day every day. One time my little cousin said to her mother “Del Taco again” she wanted real food. I felt so bad and she was like, I’m not cooking, shut up and stop wining, I’m not cooking, I’m tired.” I cooked a meal one day and sat down with her at the table. Because all her parents did was order out and buy microwave foods or took them out to eat. Her father didn’t want anyone in the kitchen really because he had OCD cleaning the house 365 days a year.
