ive been a fan of Megadeth since around 91 when i got my first tape as a kid. and..... oh yeah. you are 100% on the mark. even his song writing is Disneyesque. if you cant imagine a Disney villain singing it then its not Megadeth. its why i love it. he knows what Megadeth sounds like. a jazzy, thrash metal disney villain. and ive been here for it since i was 8. Megadeth has that sound that matches the name.

You would probably really like "A tout le monde" the story I heard was the song was originally completely in English and like he tested it at a French show and they sung the chorus in French and he was hooked by it and made it permanent

Megadeth has a great catalog. As metal goes their lyrics are more cerebral than most other metal bands in my opinion. Mustaine is also one of my favorite guitarists of that genre.

-The director of the video was Wayne Isham, who had done work with Metallica, Motley Crüe, Bon Jovi, and Janet Jackson. -I had bought the album when it came out.I slowly fell out of love for it because it had been a departure from their 1st four albums. However, I redeveloped my love for it a few years back and this song was one of my major reasons. While the musical approach was very different from their previous work, the lyrical content and themes were very much Megadeth. -Something I realized recently is that some of the most fun songs to listen to deal with poor mental health issues. *”Sweating Bullets” by Megadeth *”Paranoid” by Black Sabbath *”Falling To Pieces” by Faith No More *”Scissors” and “Perennial” by Jinjer *”Institutionalized” by Suicidal Tendencies *”Mr. Brownstone” by Guns N Roses *”Master of Puppets” by Metallica *”Little Crazy” by Fight

An ode to psychosis by Dave Mustaine... this was from 1992 and strangely, he was clean & sober when he wrote this track (Dave Mustaine has a history of drug & alcohol abuse) ... For reference: Dave Mustaine's vocal style was inspired by the original theatrical shock rocker - Alice Cooper, the guy who created the anti-hero rock star onstage (Check out "School's out" by Alice Cooper)... and punk rock singer Johnny Rotten of The Sex Pistols (Check out 'God save the Queen' by The Sex Pistols) 'Beetlejuice' came out in 1988, long after Alice Cooper, The Sex Pistols and Megadeth 😈 Megadeth was a lot more technical as a thrash/ speed metal band in the years 1985 to 1991... and that put them ahead of their peers like Exodus, Death Angel, Suicidal Tendencies, etc... Dave Mustaine was Metallica's original lead guitarist and he was fired in 1983 just before their first album "Kill 'em all" was recorded... Mustaine vowed revenge and formed Megadeth; he wanted to obliterate his former band... but as Megadeth grew in popularity, Metallica became superstars over time and it was a tough pill for him to swallow. In 1991, Mustaine heard about Metallica's 'black' album being recorded and it would be a departure from thrash metal to cross over into a streamlined metal sound... So, Mustaine opted to do the same w/ Megadeth's '92 album 'Countdown to extinction'... The tempos were slower, the attitude was still mean, and the songs were much more diverse & melodic w/ tracks like - "Symphony of destruction" ... 'Foreclosure of a dream' ... 'Ashes in your mouth'... 'Countdown to extinction'... 'Sweating bullets'...🤘🤘🔥🔥 Sadly, Megadeth's 'Countdown to extinction' only made it to #2 on the US charts in '92 (Metallica's 'black' album went to #1 in '91) and even though it sold 2x platinum, Metallica sold about 9 million copies (16 million to date) in the US... Dave Mustaine could not eclipse the popularity of his former band.

This album, “Countdown to Extinction” was Megadeth’s first album moving out of Thrash and into a more mainstream Metal. It is, I believe, their highest selling album. There are some more Thrash element songs off this album, just as there are some more radio friendly song as well. I believe you would enjoy ‘Ashes in Your Mouth’. Not ‘Holy Wars…’ but more musically pleasing than ‘Sweating Bullets’.

Check out their song Victory. The lyrics reference several of their songs up to the time (1995). Now one day I started telling everyone that killing is my business, and I was hung like a martyr From looking down the cross, my skull beneath the skin prophesized last rites, loved to death my friends Then I started seeing bad omens in my head, good mourning black Friday, will I wake up dead If I aint superstitious, then this won't mean a thing, but some crazy sh*t has happened since the conjuring - Killing Is My Business - Looking Down The Cross - Skull Beneath The Skin - Last Rites / Loved To Deth - Bad Omens - Good Mourning / Black Friday - Wake Up Dead - I Aint Superstitious - The Conjuring Came anarchy to set the world afire, pain of hook in mouth in my darkest hour Corruption of the world, peace sells but nobody's buying, ignorant religion, holy wars and the dying Tornado nearly got me by the skin of my teeth, this was my life, foreclosure of my dreams May the past rust in peace in hangar 18, and countdown to extinction just be a bad dream... Lucretia said *cackle* - Anarchy In The UK - Set The World Afire - Hook In Mouth - In My Darkest Hour - Peace Sells - Holy Wars - Tornado Of Souls - Skin Of My Teeth - This Was My Life - Foreclosure Of A Dream - Rust In Peace - Hangar 18 - Countdown To Extinction - Lucretia Not even close Not even close Not even close To overdose Had fingers in my eyes Had needles in my veins A knife right through my heart I am a victory

Oh dear, fun or funny that is the question? I’m not in the least surprised that Metallica got shut, this was like he did it while he wasn’t all there! The video was a bit of a cliche, and frankly a bit naff. Your reaction on the other hand was fun and your reference to Beetlejuice was very clever, and very apt. Great as comedy but not in terms of music 😆 The theatrical performance I would suggest is XXIst Century blood by The Warning, it received several awards for the visuals, lyrics and performance. It’s about the impact of technology on society. Very dark and interesting, and when you bear in mind the age of the songwriters and performers at the time it’s truly remarkable! For your interest the band have recently performed at the MTV VMAs and rocked the house down and toured Europe, north and south America doing their own headlining performances including the Pepsi center (who are using them in their advertising campaign).

Slayer guitarist Kerry King played with Megadeth during their first 5 shows on 1984. He then quit & went back to Slayer. Kerry has said Dave Mustaine is nuts & doesn't understand how anyone can be a member of Megadeth for more than 5 minutes. As I'm sure you can imagine, a rift existed between Dave Mustaine and Kerry King for quite some time.

Dave was on tour and his wife was pregnant with their son Justis around the time this was written. That life inspired some of the lyrics. btw, the video came out in early '93. I remember because I was in 9th grade and we were doing mid terms. I was on the way to school and my buddy told me to go home because midterms got postponed due to a teacher passing away. I went home, turned on MTV and this came on. It was either the world premiere or maybe the second or 3rd time they played it.

8:57 Look. I've been a Megadeth fan since _Peace Sells_ was a late night MTV staple. _Into the Lungs of Hell/Set the World Afire_ is great for my mood pretty much any time, and _Symphony of Destruction_ is better than JBO's parody of it ( _Symphonie der Verstopfung_ ), but it's only half as funny. So. Yes. Dave Mustaine has a great voice, but that word 'great' needs some qualifications to explain all the invisible asterisks connected to it. Like, 'Once you get used to it.' And, 'No, not in that way.' And, 'Under no circumstances, _ever,_ say the word "muppet" within earshot of the six-foot martial artist recovering addict with deeply seated anger management issues and a violently unjustified inferiority complex.' I'm on record saying, 'Hetfield's voice is metal incarnate. Mustaine's voice is he's _such_ a good guitarist.' Uncharitable, but undeniable. Mustaine's voice is great in that he's found its limits, and does all that he can with it, to most often devastating effect, he's always on pitch, his harmonies are solid, he knows what he's doing. The _emotional_ context - what he's feeling, what he wants us to feel, and what we actually feel - is always on point despite his limited instrument. It's an acquired taste, though.
