I have no desire ever to repair a pair of shoes but yet I set here for 30 mins and watch this…Thank you Dan
@derzemel Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same, until I realized that, when it comes to boots and leather shoes, it is very wasteful and actually more expensive to keep buying new pairs every 2-3 years. I found that it is cheaper to maintain good shoes in the long term and that good shoes keep looking nice when properly maintained.
@MarkmanOTW Жыл бұрын
I can confirm that having some quality shoes that mould to your feet shape, and are looked after are worth repairing. My Timberland 'classic' boots are 20 yr old. Dan resoled them with a leather mid-sole (glued and stitched in) and Vibram soles, which can now be replaced by any cobbler. This is sustainable + they feel and look great 😊
@221b-Maker-Street Жыл бұрын
@@derzemel I once read that the amount rich people spend on their eg *_John Lobb_* bespoke classic shoes (be still my beating heart) the cost averaged over decades, while not an _economy_ purchase, stacks up well against some nice off-the-peg shoes bought every few years. People forced through circumstance to buy cheap, shitty shoes get the poorest value - they often fall apart very quickly; if man-made, don't let your feet breathe, and are generally terrible for your gait, posture, joints etc. A pair of hand-made, bespoke shoes are a thing of podal beauty! 👞👞

Dan is the kind of person that helped to put the 'Great' in Britain. Full of life and enthusiasm, with a fantastic skill 'To Boot' (sorry). We need people like him, more than ANYTHING else, to get us back to something like we used to be! I'll be tracking him down (I'm in West Sussex) when I next need shoe repairs on my precious collection... absolutely and definitely. What a fantastic young man who makes the average youngster look totally useless!! ❤👍🇬🇧

Many years ago, here in Adelaide (South Australia) there was a local boot maker (Arthur Rossiter) who made Me a Custom pair of Black ‘Army styled’ G.P. (General Purpose) Boots. These boots were so comfortable that I took the boots back, every time the needed a new sole and or a new heel. Eventually Arthur retired and I had to retire those boots from frequent use, but I still kept a hold of them for many years afterwards. Best most comfortable pair of G.P. Boots I ever owned.

They are worth every cent because they last for 20+ years. I have 4 pairs of craftmans, brown, black, chocolate suede and chestnut. 25 years old, 18, 11 and 6. And having 4 pairs to rotate, they don’t get smashed so the oldest are the only pair that have had a full resole and heal done.

Luckily I bought a pair 15/years ago in NZ for ONLY$340 nzd. Now they are knocking $700 in melbourne! Oh the old ones are still like new. Nicely worn in. I don’t wear them everyday and condition them every year. Besides that just dubbin. I did have rubber fore soles added when new as the new leather is very skiddy and you prevent the need to resole. Mine are like new so I’m expecting them to last me my whole life. Buy well buy once does seem to be true!

Given the high prices of Italian shoes these days, a good restoration makes good sense to renew a pair of expensive shoes that create another rubbish in the landfill. The challenge is finding a skilled and passionate cobbler who can do a great restoration.

Hi Dan, sorry to put an adverse comment from a RWM user of 50 years. Red stitching is way out. Why don't you use RMW heel replacement? I always get my bootmaker/supplier to apply a thin rubber shim to the sole after a week's usage (it adheres better according to him). So over the life of the boot, 20 years plus, I only have to replace the heel when required. Thanks for the video, it certainly demonstrates you workmanship Regards Woodsy
