It's now four years later, the retail price of the Metaloid 5 and 5N two speeds increased to $229 vs $219 when I first made this video. We made a major purchase in November, cleared out Okuma's warehouse on the two speed 5, 5N, 12N and 12's - nearly 1000 reels purchased. They are part of our 2018 Christmas specials. Please visit our Weekly Special's page. As of this date we have the 5's up, next week all models will be clearly posted at very special holiday pricing. At 229 and 299 (for the 12's) the Metaloids were class leaders in value and performance. We now will have them offered with a discount ranging from $70-80. Merry Christmas!

Need to know, is this reel going to last much past the 3 year warranted period. The original stuff from them was pot metal and rotted out way to fast. Do they really warrant addition to a quality fishing gear rack?

Are you going to do a video on the new andros a 2 speed?
@rjc89sir10 жыл бұрын
Bought the 5n 2 speed at the Huntington beach store. Great free spool. Too great. I backlashed a lot before I got the hang of it. I got spoiled with the daiwa lexas. I have a question. When you set the drag do you set it at strike or before strike?
@CharkBaitUSA10 жыл бұрын
There's a video posted here showing how to set the drag on a lever drag reel - that should point you in the right direction. You set the drag at the strike position. As to great freespool, to gain the best advantage make use of a well educated thumb...takes some practice but the benefits are greater casting distance.

Any idea when the 5 N II LX is going to get to dealers ? It appeared on the Okuma International website in November 2017.
@CharkBaitUSA6 жыл бұрын
Can't say on that one, not planned for US market at this point. However there has been some talk about eliminating the helical cut gears - they have benefit and also a downside - on such a small and compact reel at this sort of price point. Nothing clear that I know of yet, probably it's an ICAST intro or discussion and that would put it towards July. The bigger new product intro has been the Tesoro star drag, and in that series there's a smaller size coming this month...hopefully.

Can you compare this reel to a Avet Lx in quality
@CharkBaitUSA8 жыл бұрын
+Raa631 From a size standpoint the LX matches up with the 12 size Metaloid. The Avet has more bearings, is entirely made from machined aluminum. The Okuma has more drag potential, but less range of operation - narrower curve. Both good pieces, the Avet being a bit more refined as one would hope from the more expensive piece. I look at the standard LX as a nice 40# class reel which can be pushed to 50# use but the drag really is best performing at 40 set appropriately with some headroom. The Metaloid will fish 50# and 60# given it's higher drag capability. The Avet Raptor takes the LX to a higher level of drag performance.

I got my metaloid 5 2 speed but they are all defective from the manufacturer lever doesn't function you need to call okuma to get a metal knob goes on lever it took 10 days to get it free of charge now it works like champ thinking about getting metaloid 12i for deep sea.

Not sure of the part you mention, but glad things are sorted out. The initial run of the Metaloid 5 and 5N had an issue we found when we spooled under pressure at high speed. The reel's lever would lock up. Tried going slow speed and had same issue on about 1/3 of the reels. Okuma did the right thing, took them all off the market and checked design, did more testing and brought 'em back to us after taking them away from the market for almost 3 months. When they came back they were fine, they made a change to the reels but I'm not clear on what exactly. Last year I fished a lot of charters with guys using these reels - they did great! The Andros series is indeed smoother, has more range of drag and more bearings. But, the value of the Metalids is exceptional, and they do fish well.

How would the 5 size do on a 15-40 7'6" rod?

Just fine

Ok thanks would you use the metaloid on a 6 day trip
@CharkBaitUSA8 жыл бұрын
+Raa631 In a heartbeat. I'd want to be sure to cover 30, 40, 50-60 lb outfits. The 40 will be the most used in all likelihood, with the other outfits covering situations requiring either lighter or more often heavier lines.

CharkBait, do you think the Metaloids are better than the normal Avet sx g2 reels
@CharkBaitUSA6 жыл бұрын
It's an interesting and fair question, hard to squarely answer. Single speed Avet G2 vs. Okuma Metaloid 5N... $224 vs $189. The Avet is the better reel, if we look at construction material, bearings. From a drag standpoint, the Metaloid may produce higher numbers, but it's range of use will be less. A comparison at the same selling price, this can tip the scales a bit towards a Metaloid since the 2 speed option is now offered at same price.

Excuse me, Left handle or right handle?
@CharkBaitUSA4 жыл бұрын
They were made in both left and right hand retrieve. We cleared Okuma's inventory about a year ago, and at this point right hand models are pretty much gone. We made a follow up purchase, cleared Okuma's inventory of lefty reels. Those we have run on our site and shop (CHARKBAIT) and are now very close to being sold out. Visit CharkBait for more information....

From 5:10 to 5:45… my reaction? YA NOT GONNA CAST THAT!
@MarkSmith.CharkBait7 жыл бұрын
Plenty to cast the reels, freespool is very good. Of course one is required to have an educated thumb.
