I don't hate Drake for the emotional subject matter in his music, as some other people do. I hate him because he wields his “emotions” less as a way to speak to a higher truth, but more as a tool to illicit cheap sympathy for his inability to [genuinely] connect with the angst of women, society, youth (or whoever's ass he's blowing smoke up) because of his massive wealth and fame. Its the same rhetorical ploy that men use to manipulate dumb and insecure girls into sleeping with them, repackaged as genuine emotion since time began. He’s a smug and manipulative songwriter whose songs remain remarkably kiddie pool shallow and his basic flow, that dreaded hashtag rap, is probably the worst thing to happen to hip hop--and you know that if you grew up in the 80's and 90's. Drakes entire existence as an artist is designed to validate the idea that Drake is a deep and complex individual that we should totally feel sad for (or if you a woman totally sleep with him) because his fame can’t allow him to feel feelings like a real boy. If there is a reason to hate Drake, it's less because he's soft, but because his music is theme music for entitled narcissists everywhere. But in Drakes world, as shown in his videos, all we learn about him as that he loves money, sex and parties, and that he feels bad that money and sex make him so jaded. He speaks vaguely of having love for his “homies” in Toronto (curious because he spent his first two mixtapes distancing himself from his Canadian heritage as much as humanely possible). Drake, like Kanye and so many other recording artists today are monuments to their own selfish egos more than anything else.

Charlemagne misunderstood that line about Drake “catching a body.” Drake was talking about “catching a body” in the rap game. Someone’s going to hype him up and he is going to end their career. Cuz he says he “lives for this” and isn’t just a hobby in the next line. Drake caught a lot of flack back in the day, hence probably now why he actually is corny and fake nowadays running around pretending to be Don Corleone in the rap game. This more true now than it was back then.

there is always gonna be a hater. if charlamagne did not exist someone else would be in his place doing the same thing

Why is it every time someone critiques something that's popular, they're classified as a "hater?" I don't see it so much as hating as it is constructive criticism. It's justified because they're in SHOW BUSINESS & have already opened that book to whatever interpretation/conclusion their audience comes to. He's not saying the dude lacks talent or potential; he's saying he lacks ownership of his character--which if you remember Drake from his underground days, Charlamagne's point is pretty damn accurate. I loved me some 'Room for Improvement' & 'Comeback Season', but IMO, I feel Drake has been going through an identity crisis since he signed with Young Money.
