Full disclosure: I"m not a Haley fan, BUT, why is it so hard for you and others to acknowledge the distinction between what she said and the idea that "America is a racist country"??!! Haley is not denying that America has a racist past and that racism still persists in pockets of society and American life. What she IS saying is that the founding fathers envisioned a country that would truly be free. They recognized we weren't then but drafted a document that would allow EVERYONE to claim their share of that promise; which is the reason that the constitution stays away from the word "slave". Since before the founding in 1776, most of the founding fathers recognized that slavery was an institution they wanted to get rid of....but as you can see from our political climate today [and always], it's a process and things don't just happen from one day to the next, it literally took many years. And please spare me the "George Washington had slaves" narrative. I used to think just like that until I informed myself and listened to historians who know way more than me [and presumably you] to really arrive at a take that is much more nuanced and interesting that what the common parlance holds. I think THAT is what Haley refers to when she says that the founding fathers didn't intend to have a nation "built" on racism but on freedom, and we'd do well to follow suit and learn how to parcel ideas, think critically, and be able to tell the difference. Angela is misrepresenting the situation though. She said the student was in ISS for wearing his hair in locs. The real situation is, the school has a policy that boys’ hair can’t extend past the eyebrows, ear lobes or top of t-shirt collar when let down…they are allowed to wear locs in the school, but their hair (regardless of race) cannot be longer than eyebrow level, ear lobe level or t-shirt collar level when let down…so how is he suspended for wearing locs? The crown act does not mention length at all, so they’re not breaking the law. They said he can wear that hair style as long as his hair is short enough to not go past those areas I mentioned. He put his hair up in a style that makes his hair not go past his eyebrows, ear lobes and collar, but when he lets it down, I believe they do go past at least one of those levels, if not all, which is why the school had a problem with it. All boys in that school must have their hair cut if it’s longer than what’s allowed. Angela doesn’t mention that, and just says it’s because he wears his hair in locs. That makes her non-credible.

All love to Tess, she is a beautiful woman, but she does not give full facts, she does not do full research, and she gives more opinion than fact when she is giving these stories. it just leads to more misinformation because half information is still misinformation if you are not providing the full context and facts surrounding the stories that you are giving. Part of the problem in Texas is public school enrollment is based on your address. He can't just switch schools unless he lives in the district. He can go to a Charter school. That adds transportation problems as well as added costs. I got ISS in highschool for refusing to shave (at school) facial hair they deemed too long. 30 years ago. Texas is behind the times.
