Greg Popovich, someone I consider the most complete, greatest basketball coach of all time, was the first one to really push load management. He made it work with timmy but let's be real. It's a poison pill that the rest of the nba imitated. There's a point at which less hours in practice and game time starts to increase chances of injury because players are playing while out of shape, once in a while, going from low activity to full intensity games. I feel like way fewer stars lost so many games to injuries back in the 90s and early 2000s and defense was way more hard contact, and there were no stars saying they'd never play back to backs and what not. It's gone too far with the rest.
@rdub37957 күн бұрын
You can't compare what Pop did to what is happeneing with today's NBA talent. No one in a Spurs uniform has missed as many games as Kawhi, Embiid, or Davis due to non injuries. Coaches were resting NBA players long before Popovich did it anyway.

True. Spurs load management kept an aging Duncan out of back to back games and the occasional game off for rest. Players now are taking huge chunks of the season off!

It seems like some don't consider he's not young anymore. 33 isn't old but it's about when most players start to significantly decline. Only a handful of players like Lebron and Steph and stay healthy and highly competitive after their mid-30s.
@canadianmisfit3 күн бұрын
Vontracts shpuld be based on games played. If you make 82m but you miss 3 or benched for playoffs etc ok...when you start missing 10 plus games then you should be pentalized. Up to 50 percent...i think should be fine..nba should have devent checks but hold 50 till last regular game...pay out pased on what the salary left -pentalites... Tbh that be fair. You play 60 games you make 80 percent or of salary seems fair. That gives some wiggle room on injuries verus sitting out snd small injuries. Obviously this wouldnt affect contracts that would be under min payment rules or status..

In 1984 when Donald Sterling became the Clippers owner he got rid of Bill Walton and Bob McAdo to see them win titles with the Celtics and Lakers respectively. Twenty years later they surrounded Chris Paul with superstars and they still couldn't win. Now Paul George and Russell Westbrook are gone. James Harden is probably going to be traded to Philadelphia in exchange for Tobias Harris. Kawhi barely plays and Steve Ballmer spent two billion dollars on an arena for a team that's never won anything. After forty years of being in Cali the Clippers are a lost cause at this point.
@nemoarkanian78563 күн бұрын

The basketball gods are getting back at Kawhi for bolting Toronto the first chance he got after winning the championship when he left Toronto he was 27 at the time when he came to his hometown LA at least run it back again and resign Toronto could have easily repeated in 2020 Toronto lost in game 7 to Boston but if Toronto has Kawhi they win that series in my opinion after the 2019 championship he won with Toronto he stopped caring about winning all that mattered to him was going back home and what did he accomplish since he joined LA nothing he wasn’t a championship yet and he never will see I always thought that winning is the number 1 priority in professional sports that’s why pro athletes play is to win when he went left Toronto I lost all respect for him and he made Masai Ujiri look like a fool in free agency is Masai was smart he should have given Kawhi a deadline to sign this way this gives him time to look at other options and then Toronto could have offered Jimmy Butler a contract and it’s not a guarantee that he would have signed with Toronto but after winning the championship there’s a good chance he would have signed with the Raptors instead of signing with Miami the whole thing was handled wrong by Toronto
