Yup, the signs were there even in college. An old pre-draft scouting report said," Simmons' lack of competiveness in crucial games has raised questions about his character... I'm 6'5" and didn't get into basketball til I was a freshman in a large public high school filled with athletic ball players. I majorly lacked coordination, IQ, and could only be counted on to make free-throws. The varsity team had a good big guy but he was a senior so I put in the countless hours of work and developed a decent post-game/hook shots/power moves, as well as the ability to knock down a jumper if needed. By my senior year, I averaged 12 and 10 a game as the starting center - which, in my opinion, is great from starting off not being able to do anything. With Simmons, I couldn't imagine being *THAT CLOSE TO GREATNESS* and not putting in the extra work to raise the bar and get me to where I need to be! He was 85% there, all he needed was a good midrange!
@POPLee14

The biggest issue is he is right handed and his brain dead Dad told him to shoot left. When he shoots right he has a nice form and flick of the wrist because it's natural. Ben Simmons is legitimately the definition of you can’t teach motor
@mitchtherevolution
@mitchtherevolution 2 ай бұрын
Motor, as in effort? Because I disagree with that completely. Mental health, and inability to handle criticism messed his game up. People always talk about how he can't shoot because he doesn't practice, but that doesn't even make any sense. Dude was shooting middle school numbers from the free throw line, as a NBA Vet. If you're shooting number like that, it means you are physically incapable of improving. Just like Shaq didn't have the fine motor muscle required to ever develop a good jump shot. Just like how Lebron is still a mediocre shooter, it has nothing to do with practice. That is as good as Lebron can physically be at shooting. All the analysts and critics were talking about how he needed to work on his shot. But I GUARANTEE, that is the limit of his shooting ability, and no amount will ever make him a good shooter. Sports dudes seem to forget that just because you can do some things with a basketball, doesn't mean you can learn to shoot. He was always a limited player, and he was WILDLY overrated in Philadelphia, but he could have been a solid role player if the entered the league with lower expectations and fell into that role.

It's something that needs more of an emphasis. Athleticism and innate skills mean nothing when the mental game doesn't add up. What made guys like Kobe and Jordan great is the love for the game, the drive to win, the drive to be the best player for your team and those that support you, self awareness, self accountability, all these things are the ingredients needed to make a legend. Ingredients that Simmons lacks.

Simmons will get eaten alive in Miami. I think he’s one of those dudes that realized they’re good at something and said “fuck it, might as well”, no passion, no drive, no extra work ethic or hunger. Just “fuck it, we ball” vibes. I mean not even able to maintain a 2.0 is insane, I knew frat dudes that went out 6 times a week and still had a 2.0 gpa, like cmon bro, that right there was very telling. Hey at least he got over 200m (and counting) out of something he had little passion for, I can’t hate that part

Doc told no lies. Man, this whole thing about Ben just suuuuuuucks because he can be SO FREAKIN GOOD! If he never shot another 3pt his entire career he could still easily avg 16, 12, and 6... he can post up. He has that sweeping running hook, he has the height to block shots and get put backs, he can guard the perimeter very well... the man has so many talents because we've seen it. Why when he gets on the court there is nothing there???? It is so wild
@CitroChannel

Simmons is really simply a case of an incredibly naturally talented player that doesn't actually love the game of basketball and just happened to be good enough at it to coast through life without having to put in as much effort as others. It's kind of sad really because he could be great... he just doesn't care enough to do so. I'm not even saying basketball has to be his only passion (look at Jokic, for example), but he simply appears to lack _any_ real passion for the actual game and doesn't care about winning or even keeping up the appearance of someone that wants to win after getting paid.

I seriously loved Mike's optimism at the end- it was ridiculously bordering on delusion and I was laughing my a. off. The dude is soon to hit 30 and the wrong end of that, with a bad back, had relied on his soon to be gone athleticism his entire career, and has a bad attitude, closed mind, and just disrespectful to anyone, anything close to helping him. There is a bigger chance of me ending up with Emma Stone than this guy becoming to anywhere close to having a path in the NBA, much more to the Heat, much more catapulted back to stardom. If, and that's a big if, he'll get catapulted to China. He's more done than Kris.
