As a historian, I am tired of revisionist history. Charles F. Paige did NOT invent the or an airplane, as some of these videos claim. It was an airship, it had no engine for horizontal movement and was lifted by balloons, and hot air balloons and airships had been in development for a long time. The Wright Brothers flew the Wight Flyer BEFORE Paige. Their flight is well documented. And their successful flight was not the first attempt. What the Wright Brothers achieved was the first heavier-than-air, sustained, controlled, powered flight. They made some significant contributions to aviation development, but they did not "invent" the airplane either. And the airship was lost, stolen, or accidentally or purposefully destroyed. And for a "historian" to make the assertion that it was because of race without evidence is irresponsible. This is a distortion of history to fit a false narrative that is trying to be crafted.

There is one on Amazon about him and another aviator. But the summary makes the assertion that he "invented" the airship, which is just not true. So, I don't know how accurate and unbias it is.@@chickie44

Negative. Charles Page's patent was a "Improvement to Airships". Nothing more. HIs accomplishments should be recognized, however, he did not invent the balloon. The patent search is avaiable for the patent. Patent #817442, dated April 10, 1906. You do a disservice to his legacy by promoting falsehoods. There is no controversy here, only the one being stirred up.

@@chickie44 the Patent number is corrct in reference to filing. However, the patent is for the improvement of balloons, i.e. a different way of heating and controlling gases. Not the inverntion of the heavier than air aircraft, by the way, the Wright Brothers patent is only for the "Improvement of an aircraft" and not a patent on the airplane itself. The first official patent that was considered sn aircraft was in 1879 by a man named Greenbough, Patent #220473. The art of flying does not belong to one man, but to several men, including the improvements made by Mr. Page. Honor that.
