Islam still won the first rd for sure, but it was competitive. Islam wasnt able to do much of anything to him in that rd. He landed a decent shot on the feet at the beginning, but other than that really nothing… Idk how people don’t see this.

Arman by TKO (GnP). He’s not afraid to go to the ground w him. Charles is more dangerous to Arman on the feet despite the historical submission record. Like Islam, Arman will follow him to the mat which is where Arman is most dangerous.

Charles is more experienced and he's actually over-all better. But he makes way too many mistakes, due to his aggression. (..... Imagine he gave himself time, like Islam, to work methodically in the stand up; and if Islam wanted to take him down, as Islam is the more elite pure wrestler, he's fine on the mat without any injury (like the first time they want down, from which Islam eventually bailed, due to the dicey situation on top of Charles, a next level BJJ guy..... ) So, while this is the fight marquee fight between two guys I have no firm idea about, or personal biases for or against.... I will pick the younger Arman. I watched the Charles-Gaethje a few times and I realized how MANY TIMES Gaethje was able to hurt Charles. Problem with Justin is, he literally has ZERO BJJ skills, so his pure D1 undergraduate college wrestling means zero in MMA. And, so, when he hurt Charles --- more than a few times, in just one round ---- he couldn't do much, because Charles simply clinched up or fell to the ground, on purpose. The other weakness about Gaethje: because he has entirely just stand-up striking and kicking, he MUST deliver his fists and feet with maxium force at all times. That means he is often way out of position, due to his swings. He swung 2-3 times so hard, against Charles, that one time he literally went down from his mighty arm swing. You know with that kind of HAPHAZARD swings, he either lands and KO Charles quickly or Charles was going to clinch up, was going to hurt him, or was going to jump on him from a fall of some type, initiated by Gaethje himself... and it was going to be all over. Which was exactly what happened. Anyway.... Arman doesn't have the pure BJJ submission skills that either Islam or Charles have; but Arman is a young, stocky, extremely strong wrestling scrambler; from top, he delivers powerful G&P. He also is more restrained than Justin... so he's not going to swing haphazardly with all his power and be out of position for Charles to take advantage of... And Arman, like Islam, isn't afraid to go down on top of Charles. Arman had already taken on and beaten other ADCC level fighters, who were BJJ specialists, due to his strength, wrestling, and scrambling ability.... so unless he's hurt before going down, it'd be very hard for Charles to get a hold of him in normal scrambling. Yes, again, Charles could hurt him. But the opposite also is true. Again, I just don't like Charles freebie giving, in the stand-up. Giving freebies to less skilled guys or fighters like Gaethje, Dustin et al. who could only do stand-up or do BJJ ..... is one thing.... Giving freebies to guys who could do both and do it at the elite level, like himself, Islam, Arman et al. THAT IS SOMETHING ELSE....

I think it’s unfair to say you can’t put too much stock in Charles and Arman knocking out beneil because before beneil got knocked out he was probably the number one contender for the belt and was on like a 9 fight win streak. Also I honestly think the only advantage arman has is his age, but Charles isn’t even that old, he’s like 34 years old, and he’s won 12 of his last 13. Arman hasn’t really beaten anyone of substance outside of beneil, and yes I agree with you, he beat gamrot in my opinion

Before getting too far into this breakdown, I keep going back and forth to make my pick. Oliviera definitely is the more experienced of the fighters but based on the two common opponents both fighters shared the octagon with, Islam and Beneil, Arman definitely had a better performance against Makaschev, especially considering it was his UFC debut, and also, if I’m not mistaken, finished Darioush quicker than did Charles Oliviera, even tho both of them got Benny out of there quickly and dominantly… Before I hear your pick, I am going to go with… man it’s so close but I have to go with one of my favorite fighters of all time although I wouldn’t bet my house on it, Charles Oliviera by a 29-28 UD.

Islam won NOT because of wrestling, or even striking - he won because of his lateral movement and overall defense which frustrated Oliveira…EVERYONE that has engaged with Oliveira during his recent run has lost…I see Arman underestimating Oliveira, really confident about his power and wrestling and going in there with a lot of pressure then getting clipped by Oliveira and ultimately finished!

Just finished the video and had a feeling you would pick Arman. I’m not sure why because I am aware of your penchant for oliviera’s style as well as the excitement he brings to the table. I also agree with you that the odds are off and it’s a lot closer to a 50/50 fight than the odds otherwise suggest. Having said all of that, I am still going to go with Charles on this one because of whom he’s fought and finished in his last several fights. I think styles do make fights but I do not think that Arman stacks up nearly as well against Dustin, Justin, and even Chandler. In fact, without too much thought and analysis, I can see Arman losing to all of the above mentioned names, whereas, I think Charles only loses to the guy he has already lost, Islam Makaschev. So may the better man win and LETS GOOO!!! can’t wait for this fight and it’s a shame that it’s not a 5 rounder, as you mentioned

Islam was very careful when fighting Charles, and knew when to get out of Charles leg submission attempts. My feeling is that if Arman does get Charles down that Arman is going to find himself tapping out to a leg submission or a triangle submission. The fight will not last 3 rounds.

I love Charles. I surely want to see him winning all His fights. But when talking about fighting people like Islam ir Arman Is a different talking. The Brasilian JJ has shown to be not that effective when facing these warriors having that crazy cardio, chin, zambo Wrestling and body endurance. These guys are all well-rounded. Charles Is the best in one thing, but Arman Is a well-rounded tank.

Just Arman being 7 years younger is an advantage..And the best of the younger generation seem to break through when they are 27 years old, like Arman. Height and range is going to play a factor here. Most of Arman's "ko's" are via ground and pound, on the feet he's historically not been that dangerous. I don't see him grinding charles out on the mat, but It is possible. I feel like they're pretty evenly matched, but with charles being more dangerous everywhere, and arman having more control...if that makes sense.
