I was 8 and totally in awe of her, her wedding dress, the pomp of the wedding. More than ateensy bit jealous too. Now as a middle aged woman I see it from a mother's perspective and feel she was an innocent young girl who should have been protected and cherished. Over the decades since her death I feel worse about her treatment than I did in 1997. She was so gorgeous and they just ruined her life and hung her out to dry. A tragedy in the truest sense of the word.

Poor Diana- she genuinely loved him and wondered why he was so mysterious and unromantic. She thought she found a worthy escape from the life she previously had. She had no idea she had to escape from something bigger. And, sorry, there is no poor Charles. Apologists will do the whining for him and demonize her and the roles they had to fulfill, but that's the institution's fault, not Diana's.

So this might be an EXTREMELY controversial take here... I don't think Charles is entirely to blame for this. Diana is absolutely the v1ctim here, for sure. But Charles isn't just a creepy older dude looking for a young naive girl to manipulate. He is the heir to the throne, having been denied the woman he actually WANTED to marry who was more age appropriate and mature. He HAD to get married, he was told he had no choice. Not only that, but the standards at the time demanded he marry a v1rgin woman, forcing him to pick someone younger and less experienced. He treated Diana poorly, yes. But he was not a predator. He was a v1ctim of arranged marriage, taking his frustrations out on his fellow v1ctim. I think this applies to real life Charles, as well as TV show Charles (who I view as different people with some similarities)

One of my first memories was waking up to the house filled with my mother's sobbing when everything went down in August of 1997. I had just turned three, and, when I asked what was the matter, my mother replied, "A princess died." I didn't really understand that; we're American, so my concept of royalty was limited to Disney films at that age, especially due to the fact that my mother always told me that those stories weren't real. I didn't grasp the enormity of it until much later.

I was looking at the coronation watching her Grinch grin as they put that crown on her head. Ugh! I can never forget what that woman brought about. Diana would be alive today if not for her. No, she didn't shove the knife directly in her back but her actions caused a chain reaction that killed Diana, no two ways about it. And her "punishment' is that she gets to be queen and have everything, all while standing on top of Diana's bones and smiling that Grinch grin of hers. People like to call people "haters," indiscriminately. Maybe I am a hater of her. I'm a hater of anyone who caused someone that much misery, pays no price for it and gets rewarded in the end.
