I find a quiet corner of the bar to sit down - close to a rain streaked window. Check my watch, rub my tired eyes. Lean my head back against the wall, close my eyes, feel the week’s tensions slip away gradually. Distant hum of vehicles, buzz of a quiet radio maybe. The tap of the rain outside is soothing. Some quiet jazz floats through the air, I glance around but can’t locate the source. It’s late - perfect stop after a long shift; a couple students huddle in a booth, reading and sipping caffeine. I feel the distant rumble of the subway hurtle past for a few moments, a barely noticeable tremble in the table. I’ll head home soon, once the rain dies down. For now, enjoy the peaceful corner and late night city sounds. Cheers Don.
