iz iz it’s not that hard to train a horse the right way, most people don’t realize that everything you do with your horse is training them, so if every time you do something with your horse you are being consistent with what you ask and how you ask it you will have an amazingly trained and behaved horse, your horse doesn’t know what is the right thing or wrong thing to do without you being a good consistent leader and teaching them what to do and how to do it.

I work at a camp for kids. These horses are stubborn and can't form one single bond with one human. They won't act like a horse that listens. They know the system and how to work it.

Mr. Wilhelm, I learn important things when I watch your videos. Your calm and patience always impress me and I am knocked out by your deep understanding of horses. I wish I could have had you work with my Polish Arabian. He is a grand horse but he has had to suffer my ignorance until he could finally teach me the right way to do things. Thank you for these videos; I think they probably improve horses' lives when owners pay attention to you.

I don't know anything about training horses but dogs I do. When training a dog that belongs to Someone else you just train the owner... what you said is you want to train yourself.... to train the horse.... that's what this guy is showing...... with a dog it's about establishing who is in control... dominance.... people let their dogs train them.... and they don't even know it.... consistency reward and punishment... at first might need to be kinda harsh but once you establish that you're in control then never give that control back... this horse looks to the man and pays attention that is trained into the man (never give the horse control) and the horse (knows to pay attention in detail) Watching him move this horse without reigns I'm certain he could easily train this horse to move on hand signs or sounds to the point he could stand perfectly still and the horse would obey... he could even get this horse to do every thing he did in this video while sitting on the fence.... all that would take is tell the horse what he wants as this horse is conditioned to pay attention and obey and the horse wants to pay attention and obey... you see the horse keeping an eye on him and an ear.... beautiful thing and it impresses people when you snap a finger and your dog sits... the horse I'm sure will too... look at the body language .... notice he gives praise when the horse does it right and a slight sound when it dosent... dogs respond to treats instantly then you wean them from the treat replacing that with praise every time they do it right... then wean to random occasional praise .. And from what this man says it's obvious the horse enjoys the training as much as the man... it's a dance and it's rapport it's understanding... it's communication which don't require speech and it's dominance .... dominance is not force as most believe ... dominance is knowing those that submit to you better than they know themselves and letting them submit thru trust... this horse knows this man is doing what's best for him

Not to try to insult you but It's you not the horse that is the problem... this means learn the techniques... which I'll bet you already know... maybe you have been lax or a bit lazy.... you might not know everything so good to always learn because no one knows it all... the basics are almost always all you really need... then comes consistency Training takes time and basics should be enough... When training a dog heel and sit is where it all starts. The dog learns that if it sits it gets reward (treat or praise) then it pays attention... don't overdo it dogs are good for about 15 min sessions to start.... and once they understand it's a "game " with rewards they learn to love learning.... guess what it applies to people too... I have clicker trained people and they never knew they were trained... believe it or not it's really fast too... Once you learn how I think it can easily be adapted to dogs horses birds people and maybe even fish

Very good video, i see yr horse moves off really quickly to yr hand going forward to walk on cue…to teach that to a horse that lags behind a bit, wud u just use yr stick to tap behind while yr still facing forward ? Or what wud u do to encourage them to keep up? thx mil

@@cwtraining Strong, no metal to hurt the horse, no weak points. When backing the horse on the ground, one of the methods is wiggling the rope. When there is an metal connector it can and often does hit the horse on the underside of his head. Not good.

Gerry Coleman im going to say if you watch the video and use only the methods he uses none of your reasons hold water, myself I im too cheap to use a lead with a snap, I buy a good length of bulk cotton rope and tie it on, but I don’t like to wiggle or drive off the halter, I prefer to use the halter as a tether not a means of control, I use the end of the rope or stick to pin point pressure that way the head stays soft for later on. Even later on i ride with loose rains and my hand on the horses neck so that all I have to do is lift off the neck an inch or two and apply a small amount of side pressure (still a completely slack rain) to get a good turn and with continued side pressure a stop and spin, so what im getting at is it depends on how you train more than what type of set up you have.

@@henryhenry903 Yes, that sounds good. I just don't like metal around my horse's head. I like the strength and feel of a well fitted rope halter, and rope to rope when I connect the lead line to the halter.

I have a horse that is trained just like this and could give demos in good leading skills on a lead or at Liberty until you get her in a situation where she is super antsy to go back to the barn or field. Usually a windy day and mates calling out and then she acts like she wasn't trained at all. Jigging, rearing, bolting. Sometimes all the groundwork prep in the world won't change a reaction but I guess it may help you be prepared deal with it. I've never lost her and we get back my speed together eventually however many turns and circles it takes in part because we have these skills but in honesty also just in part luck she hasn't ever learned to use her strength against me and turn her head away, throw the shoulder in, and charge into gallop away rather than bending in on the circle. I know skilled horse trainers who haven't always been able to fix this behavior other than perhaps use a chain or chifney. They just don't generally show these examples in any videos of their work. 😉

Azile2000 it’s completely a lack of respect of your leadership or lack of leadership I should say, and stop turning in circles it doesn’t fix the issue as you have admitted already, it takes firm, fair, consistent leadership on your part and she will fall into step on her own, and the best way to fix barn/pen sour horses is when they want to turn back show them you want to go farther and then after 2/3 times of telling them let them go back and work them hard at the barn for a few minutes then ride back out towards your previous destination and repeat until they don’t want to turn back, it will take a few times the first couple rides but will get less and less if you are consistent on your end, but you need to get into a confident leadership roll on the ground before you start trying to fix the riding issues, and some times if you fix the ground work issues the riding issues solve them selves.

Do you have any videos on how to get a horse to slow down while leading? I'm learning alot from your videos but my biggest issue with mine is he walks way faster then me and tends to pull. I'd live to learn how to get him to walk with me. Learned my lesson with space while trying to control as he squashed my foot a couple weeks ago going back to the pen (it was supper time). He stops perfectly when another horse is in front and stops. But if I'm in front and I say "whoa" and pull back he dont like to stop and I dont want to hurt him by pulling too much. Hes a TW if that makes a difference

How is it to your advantage for the horse to stop when you stop? I can think of times where you want to keep moving without the horse and visa versa. Would it not be better to have an actual 'stop' que like you did a 'forward' que? I noticed your horse is forever turning its rump away so it (the horse) faces you each time it stops? Why do you not want your horse to stop squarely beside you? Thanks.

PayntPot the turning his rump away is called “yielding the hindquarters.” It disengages the horse’s hip meaning it takes that out of play so he can’t kick you with his hindquarters. Getting the horse to face you with his head is also a sign of respect because he’s a prey animal so it gets the horse to use both eyes.

My buckskin gelding cannot be lead. He will bat his front legs, rear up at times and purposely knock into you trying to knock you down! What can I do to change this? He's knocked my husband unconscious! He's knocked me down to many times so I will not Walk him anymore. But he's easy to ride and pony my mare off him. I've asked so so so many experts and no one ever gets back to me or offers any help. Please help. 🙏

The kissing is a form of pressure. Once the horse does as you ask, stop the cue. If you do it too much, the horse will tune you out. The horse learns on the release of pressure.

For a guy who clearly understands horses, why do you pat a horse as if to reward it for good performance? Do you really think you are conveying this? Patting is hitting, not only to horses, but to most animals, even though its not hard. All they learn is to tolerate it; to them it's like flies, something that happens that has no meaning that they can figure out and they can't do anything to avoid it so they just accept it. Its quiet easy to put this one to rest for all the people stuck in old habits. Pet the top of your head, now pat the top of your head as hard as you pat your horse. Feel the difference? Patting wouldn't be perceived as a positive experience even by us, let alone a pray animal.

Daniel Thomas lol im guessing that you have read some books on how to train a horse and now you are an expert that has never trained a horse in your life, because if you had trained any horses you would know that there are a lot of different ways to train and as long as they don’t involve beating them, and the outcome is what you want then IT IS NOT THE WRONG way
