I STILL have this game, along with the first in my closet, and they're so of their time, like late 90's to 2000, doing their best to promote Claremont's return to the X-Men in 2000 after 90's run concluded with "Revolution". The costumes Beast, Rogue, and Nightcrawler were wearing, while in the CG intro, Storm, and Psylocke were wearing their X-Treme X-Men suits... So this game was a mash of several styles since Revolution lasted 9 issues, but they thought it would do better. The X-Treme was JUST starting, the 90's suits were still relevant, some of the late 90's space suits were still around, like Rogue's orange and purple suit, Storm's Joe Mad purple and silver suit with her REALLY long hair strands. How do I know all of this, because it's me, I know these things lol AND the past year and a half, i've been cataloging every X-Men outfit for art purposes.

Fun story about that Wolverine origin you mentioned, in the mid 2000s there was a story that revealed that certain mutants weren’t evolved from primates, but from wolves. I enjoyed these games a lot as a kid. I remember they had like a training mode that taught you how to do all the character moves which was neat at the time. Also if you hit Throw at the same time as your opponent, you'd block it. Having each character have their own bosses is my preferred way to do Arcade Modes even if the endings are lacking.

Plenty of things have changed in the comics. The x-men and their mutant villains now live on a sentient island callled krakoa, psylocke and revanche are back in each other's old bodies, apocalypse have a long lost family who lives on a island that's sentient like krakoa, and it turns out moira mactaggart is a mutant with the power to repeat her life like the groundhog day movie.

I think you can transfer your super meter from the low tier to the next tier in line. Spider-Man and juggernaut are secret playable characters. And I believe each character has their own final boss. Cyclops vs havok, wolverine vs sabretooth and vice versa. And I think some of the characters have the movie skins that are unlockable Havok came out in the iceman episode

So many mechanics in this game are not well explained and really make a difference in play. You can transfer super power from one bar to another. You can cancel a weak special into a heavy special in most cases. There are TONS of TOD combos in this game.

Every so often, I ask myself: "Why aren't Rogue and Jubilee in more X-Men multimedia?" As a kid, I thought there were essentially fixtures of the team...but maybe that's just because of the cartoon? (actual quote of his from this game ;) ) BTW downplaying Toad will only have you miss out on a cool character. He's actually great! Oh he's cool in the game too. Grew up playing this on PS1 a LOT! Loved playing as Toad (Ray Park is to blame here...ever since him I've loved Toad. He was just bad in the X-Men TAS. Thankfully we got a great Toad in X-Men Evolution) and I was actually getting pretty good with him. First character to complete the game on hardest dificulty, always played a shim when we played with friends. He has so many great sound effects in this game. Like when he grabs you and juggles you on his legs he says "Gotcha, he-ha-ha" (in his weird jestery voice)... guy is hillarious! Anywya you're a coll guy but I will never forgive you for talking ill of Toad. From now on I'll be only hate watching your videos! xD
