Honestly, this movie is so iconic!! Yes, yes, Incredibles is a great movie, with a fantastic score to go along with it. However, the way the story is told through music in this film is what really enhances the enjoyment! For anyone curious, here's my translation of the first 2 verses (the ones we can hear in the video) of "Le festin" (the feast) Lovers' dreams are like good wine They may bring joy or grief Weakened by hunger, I am unhappy Stealing everything I can on my way Because nothing in life is free Hope is a dish too soon consumed I am used to skipping meals A lonely thief so sad he could "die/feed" (pun on "nourrir" = feed VS "mourir" = die) Ah, such bitter games, I can't succeed Because nothing in life is free

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but in the motif at the beginning of the theme when Remy begins to fix the soup - when he begins the process of creating - the three dominant repeating tones of the melody are the same as the three dominant repeating tones in the motif at the beginning of Le Festin (the theme that occurs when a creation is complete). However, in the cooking scene, the tones are in a minor key (if it is in the key of G, the third tone will be a b-flat) and ascend upward from g to b-flat, whereas Le Festin puts it in a major key and the tones descend from b to g. They are mirror images of each other. One is simply the beginning of the 'creative process' while the other is the end.

I wouldn't have thought to give this OST a listen had you not covered it, so thanks for doing so! On another note, my favorite work from Giacchino is his score of Spider-Man: No Way Home, specifically the use of (SPOILERS) his theme for Aunt May's death and how he later turns it into a heroic version to represent Peter's sacrifice in response. (He also references "The Real Hero" by Alan Silvestri from Avengers: Endgame, which makes for a really nice touch as Peter is about to make his sacrifice.) If you wanna check this one out, I recommend "Exit Through the Lobby" and "Forget Me Knots" (this one also uses "The Real Hero" in a powerful way) primarily. They're the two tracks that most heavily represent what I'm talking about. If you want a piece that further exemplifies the transformation of the theme, listen to the suite "Arachnoventure" and pay attention to the way the theme is overlaid on the Spider-Man theme Giacchino wrote for Homecoming. If you feel up to it, I'd also love to hear you go over the Final Fantasy VII soundtrack or anything from The Legend of Zelda series. Thanks for doing this! I love your content!

It’s called “Le Festin” (The Feast). “The dreams of lovers are like a good wine.” “Weakened by hunger I am unhappy.” “Hope is a dish eaten too quickly”. “I cannot succeed because nothing in life is free.” It really is Remy’s “I want song”. The last verse says that the feast will begin “I am happy at the idea of my new destiny”.

Music theory just blows my mind. I would love to be able to pick things apart so accurately like this! Cinematic music is so emotive I love it.

Not the video or topic I was expecting! Love nearly everything Giacchino's done, that soundtrack to The Lost World PS1 has to be one of my earliest memories of full orchestral music - especially for a game 👌

I listen to your videos in the background of tasks all the time, but this is the one where things finally started clicking and making sense to me. It makes me want to dedicate the time to learning the terminology of music theory and how to play piano.

I’d love to see you analyze some of Michael Giacchino’s fantastic music for the Jurassic World trilogy. Unfortunately it gets overlooked because people don’t like the films, but the music is as sophisticated and soulful as it gets.

I don't think that the scores for Jurassic world 2 and 3 do anything particularly interesting but the score for Jurassic world is beautiful. Brilliant composition

I never thought that there would be anything better than Open Studio, but Charles is ahead. Long-term studying and practising, OK, but the ability to perform like him is a gift, I‘m quite shure. Maybe it is also so good and entertaining because he talks about so many genres, and not the easiest music. There is a lot of overall knowledge shining through. And - man - that hearing without perfect pitch is phenomenal.

Another great score from micheal giacchino is for the movie zootopia. It might not be his greatest score, but I find the music to be so unique and special, I'd really love to see you talk about it!!

These songs are good, but my personal favorite is a new deal. The amazing pizzicato on the basses and you can hear Remy slowly warming up and the progression of their relationship through the music.

Hey Charles, I just realized how amazing some of the Cyberpunk 2077 Score is!!! Even though you would never expect such beautiful and melancholic harmonies with this type of music. Defenitely check out the “Outsider No More“ by P.T. Adamczyk. Love your videos ;)

I think it would be really interesting for someone like you to look into the work of Nicholas Britell - he wrote the music for movies such as "Moonlight", "The King" and "If Beale Street Could Talk". He has a really hauntingly beautiful quality to his work that I think would be fascinating to see you unpack.
