Great idea to put LED lights on your Runaway Camper. They definitely make you more visible and other drivers will notice that you'll be changing lanes. Great how-to dies as well.

Charles needs some diagonal cutters and a fancy wire stripper that spreads the insulation off the wire after it cuts it. Good video Charles. My lights are done, but I ran the cordmate inside and drilled a small hole next to the rear power strip hole and a new small hole on the right side using 14 gauge wire.

Mark Harris Charles almost bought new wire strippers a day ago! : ) If I had to do it again on my fiberglass Runaway, I would do it like you did.

Yes, my used automatic wire strippers came from the Nevada Air National Guard back in the 1970’s, however I bought a new backup! It really speeds up wire stripping and makes precise insulation stripping easy.

Hi Charles! You invited us to come see your camper sometime (we live in Shelbyville). We are picking up a 2017 Range Runner tomorrow (yeah) and I want to add the extra lights like you have done! I know now is a rough time for everyone, but when you're ready, we'd love to meet you both! Anthony

Absolutely! You need to join one or both of the Runaway owner pages. I would be glad to have you bring it over and we do the lights together if you like. Email me - charlesemoman@gmail.com and I will give you my cell number and we can work it out. Anytime will be fine. Be safe.

OK great! I have watched your installation twice. But I'm waiting for my Runaway 4x8 but now it is fiberglass. So my question is how do we do all the drilling, screws and mounting with the new 2020 camper. Interested in all suggestions! Thanks! P.S. How would the break light install differ if any?! Also why again not wire the new LED in to the existing taillights. Seems that power connection can support it!

The factory-installed lights are sealed and I did not want to mess with them. Other I am sure could figure that out. If I had to do mine over, I would not use Cordmate channels down the back. I would drill a hole through the back wall because that is really how tases Trailer LED strips are made to be installed anyway. Drill a hole - run the wires through and now the LED light will lay totally flat. Then inside the camper I would use ivory-colored cordmate channels and run the wires to the floor - drill a small hole in the floor and then wire it to the original wiring. You just seal with silicone or get rubber grommets for the holes and silicone them in too. I am no expert at all, so many could do this better than my way I am sure. We do not use any screws inside the camper - we use extreme velcro for everything and it works great. I would be happy to answer anymore questions.

Never used it and never will on the new one either. Many do, But I am not comfortable with stuff hanging off the back. That is just me. Now we are doing a Ford Transit van conversion - see the announcement and follow along - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooWbonubbq6Ulbc

Where is the best place to purchase these lights?! Incidentally why aren't the new LED lights connected parallel to the existing LED's or I wasn't following?!
@charlesmoman4 жыл бұрын
I got mine from eTrailer - www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Lights/Optronics/STL64RB.html The LEDs are wired on each side together with the original wiring.

Yeah but it's dangerous for the people behind you because they are so bright it's very distracting
@charlesmoman3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not true. These are standard legal taillights. No brighter than the lights on a semi. Sorry - you are mistaken.

@@charlesmoman but you have them placed right in eyesight if you look at any camper any trailer they put tail lights down lower but to eaches own have a great day

@@dereksmith5551 Look at RVs, big trucks, horse trailers, etc. etc. All of those lights are not down low and I WANT them to see the lights - that’s the goal. Take care.
