The streets will corrupt your thinking, I was driving Foreign’s all through my mid to late 20’s and by 30 I was on the bus for the first time in my life going back to grad school while my ego died a slow death. Brother nothing hurts more than being a man in your 30s on the bus.Especially when you live in a state that doesn't allocate funds towards public transportation. Child support taking your license. Literally stifling your ability to get ahead. It's a perpetual cycle of poverty and struggle. Why is the country doing this to their men. Why are we allowing them to do it!!!

This is 100% I came out of the streets, was a street dude and by the grace of God was able to relocate and begin a new life. I took the residues of the streets with me, and incorporated it into everything I did from my household to my place of work. It wasn't until I hit my 30s that I realized I don't have to abide by those street rules or perpetrate the image of a gangsta any more. I have kids, I like to go out and have a great time in the city with my woman, I don't entertain violence anymore as a matter of fact I avoid it as a law. My goal is to get myself, my woman, and my family out of harms way but in my 20's I wanted all the smoke. There is nothing wrong with growing, and dismissing the behaviors that you once had in the past. All I want is to take trips, stack my money, invest, raise my kids, make sure family is straight and live a good long life.

When my granny told me: Whatever your flesh may despise (make you feel uncomfortable doing something completely normal) fight it. It took years for me to adjust, I have a car now but I'll still walk to the store to make sure I don't lose that lesson. I never want to return to that 'residue' Charlie spoke of; that is pure ignorance.

My woman is not from any of that; she had no clue what it was about. But I certainly brought it into our home--and it nearly cost me my family. 20 years of marriage, and I've just now purged the last of it, through my own determination and her patience and understanding. So grateful for her and my babies' love, and so sorry for the pain that I brought to their lives. Now I just want to make up for lost time with them as best I can.
